'Big Lie' lives in Vietnam
Washington Times ^ | July 1, 2007 | MIKE BENGE

Posted on 07/01/2007 4:46:39 PM PDT by Tailgunner Joe

Thomas Jefferson would roll over in his grave knowing Ho Chi Minh used his immortal words from the Declaration of Independence of the United States — "All men are created equal; they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable Rights; among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness" — as the opening for the Vietnamese communist's Declaration of Independence. This is the same Vietnamese communist regime responsible for the murder of more than 1 million Vietnamese.

Although Jefferson's immortal words may be in Vietnam's Declaration of Independence, there they are but hollow words. Vietnam tolerates no challenges to its communist one-party rule. Extrajudicial killings continue, and in a recent spate of repression, "the worst in 20 years," the regime locked up and sent to prison more than 20 religious freedom, democracy and human-rights activists, while tightening its grip on the media and enforcing strict Internet restrictions.

Religious leaders and followers across the spectrum, Buddhists, Christians and believers of other faiths are continually harassed and arrested. More than 350 Christian Montagnard political prisoners remain incarcerated. ...

The Vietnamese regime's creator was not God as Jefferson wrote, but Ho Chi Minh.

“The Vietnamese regime’s creator was not God as Jefferson wrote, but Ho Chi Minh.”

Jefferson didn’t write that the creator of American government was God, either. He said individuals were endowed, not groups. It’s a constant fight against government to see that.

“This is the same Vietnamese communist regime responsible for the murder of more than 1 million Vietnamese.”

With the able assistance of the American left.

And, those same leftists would be only too happy to help al Qaeda, or anyone else for that matter, murder a few million of us.

I thought our Republic was created by we, the people, to protect our God-given rights.

That’s right. God didn’t create the Republic (or regime). People did.

The definition of regime is government, or form of government.

Jefferson never wrote that our form of government was created by God, nor was it. The author of the article is out to lunch.

The American left should be very proud of what the abetted and created.

“The American left should be very proud of what the abetted and created.”

I don’t know that they’re proud of it, but they certainly made it happen.

Hanoi Jane says that these murders wouldn’t have happened, nor would have the killing fields of Cambodia, if we hadn’t been there in the first place. But, that ignores the reality that communists have murdered on the order of 100 million people around the world in the interest of forcing their ideology on the people. If we hadn’t intervened it simply would have happened sooner.

So, I don’t know that they’re proud of it, but I do think that they believe it a small price to pay if it results in communism for the masses.(assuming of course that none of them are murdered) The American far left is a truly evil lot — not all Democrats of course — but the hard core communist sympathizing, America hating left. Pure evil and of that I have no doubt.

That opening was inspired at least in part by OSS operative Archimedes Patti who was very close to Ho, and at the time was sending dispatches to Washington about how pro-American the Vietnamese were.

Alas however, the Truman administration gave the OK for French re-occupation of Vietnam as a bone to DeGaulle who the Vietnamese soon defeated at Dien Bien Phu, and...well the rest is more or less common knowledge.

One has to wonder historically however, what would have transpired there had Patti's information been acted on.

I believe that we do have normal trade relations and, as I recall, Viet Nam became the 150th member of the WTO just last January. FDI is pouring in. Corruption remains a problem along with the problems noted elsewhere.

Nevertheless I hope a lot of business diverts from Red China to VN as well as new business. If it has to go "over there" I rather see it go to VN instead of China.

I know that citizens are allowed to found and operate businesses including book publishing (offset printing). A friend of mine is hoping that a series of children's books depicting early (like 2000 years ago) VN history and selling extremely well over there will do well here. Her childhood friend publishes the books.

Fascinating history of battling Chinese dynasties and each other.

I don't think that the commies will hold these people down for long. May take a couple of decades for the Party to "wither away."
