I asked one of the few conservative Republican senators who stuck with President Bush on immigration to assess how Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell handled the issue. Asking not to be quoted by name, he replied: "If this were a war, Sen. McConnell should be relieved of command for dereliction of duty." Not only did the minority leader end up voting against an immigration bill that he said was better than the 2006 version that he supported, but he also abandoned his post, keeping off the floor during final stages of Senate debate.

"We did it!" exulted freshman Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, one of the bill's leading Republican opponents, e-mailing financial contributors. "When the U.S. Senate brought the amnesty bill back up this week, they declared war on the American people." Newt Gingrich, eyeing a presidential run, declared "a soaring victory for the American people" for defeating the "Bush-Kennedy-McCain bill."

Thank God for Sen. Jim DeMint and Sen. Sessions and others. God Bless America!

This issue was different because it was the FACTS and the DETAILS which the listeners were citing. This was not as Lott or Specter said an “amnesty” misunderstanding. People DID understand. The senate was just operating under 1970 rules where they could expell any nitrogen compound and describe it as desirable and there would be no way to check on it.

The senators are now on notice that they can and will be held to their statements. Their positions can and will be examined to coincide with what they are passing.

Mel Martinez should be IMMEDIATLY removed from his RNC position. (heck he even blew off the FL Bar in Orlando to attend the Latino Elected official Convention IN ORLANDO. I think he was playing golf at the time. But he did send in a nice video)

There is nothing we can do about it. It is going to happen anyway. THIS sort of thinking is ruining us. It is what is said about teen sex, trade with China, drug dealers, illegal immigration, just about everything except people who refuse to pay income taxes. More and more it seems our public officials and government just shrug and when enough people do something it becomes de facto legal. Is this any way to run a country, or anything else?

Republicans drove another nail in George W. Bush's political coffin and undermined hopes for the growing, winnable Hispanic vote.

The only way the GOP will win those votes is by sticking to its core principles. Hispanics will vote for Republicans if they prosper and find themselves with something to protect from Democratic avarice. The GOP can put them into that position by reducing the size and scope of government, by cutting taxes, and by basically getting Washington DC out of the People's way. Pandering to the leftist elements within the Hispanic community, however, will not win those votes.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then John Bergstrom sums it up nicely with this. Poor, uneducated immigrants have no reason whatsoever to vote for Republicans. We didn't lose anything with the defeat of the amnesty bill.

Repeal the law extending citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil. ............. would require a constitutional amendment. "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws" (14th Amendment).

That amendement would sail through the states ratification process like a nuclear-powered schooner.

The 26th amendment---to give 18-year olds the right to vote----was passed in three months and 10 days back in 1970 (without the power of the i-net).

Somebody get Tancredo on the phone----introduce it NOW.

Now is not the time for us to give up. We need to keep the heat on all the fed politicians, Dem and Republican alike.

We know that politicians don't like confrontation from voters. We need them to feel mighty uncomfortable whenever they refuse to do their jobs.

We also need to go local. Put heat on our town councils and county commissions. Let's start calling in all zoning violations, illegal loiterers, parking and traffic violations. Make sure that the cops have the authority to ask for legal status. Demand that the local politicians know your feelings about goat slaughtering and 15 men living in a single family house.

Call the local radio stations when there is a meeting with time and date. A group of upset voters will be taken seriously. Let people know which council members won't do anything. Remind people that nothing will get better if they sit home and accept illegal crap.

ACTION Ignoring fraudulent voting by illegal aliens, ignoring the use of fraudulent documentation are gross violations of fiduciary responsibility.

ACTION Licenses of bonding agents for tax-exempt municipal transportation and highways, municipal school bonding, utilities bonding, and the like, who misled tax-exempt investors by ignoring illegal alien activities.

ACTION Most bonding agents conducting municipal business have licenses that should be lifted-----they are registered broker-dealers and members of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) and the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC).

ACTION Banks doing bonding business with states and municipalities subsidizing illegal alien activity are violating their fiduciary duties, and jeopardizing bank patrons, shareholders, and depositors.

Exactly. If Hispanics voted for candidates with conservative views, then their own countries wouldn’t be such basket cases. They will vote for the same kind of socialist demagogues as they did at home. The Dems are their party.
