Vatican supports Macedonia's EU, NATO bid
Makfax Online (Macedonia) ^ | 7/2/2007

Posted on 07/02/2007 3:00:53 PM PDT by markomalley

Vatican pledged a full support to Macedonia's efforts to join the EU and NATO, but discreetly urged change of legislation relating religious communities, Makfax reporter said on Monday.

"The Holy See supports your efforts to become part of the European Union and the Euro-Atlantic institutions," the Vatican's Foreign Affairs Minister, Archbishop Dominique Mamberti said after the meeting with the Macedonian Foreign Minister Antonio Miloshoski.

In this context, the Holy See encourages the government to continue to fight political corruption and organized crime, Archbishop Mamberti said.

He expressed hope that Macedonia legislation, in particular the one pertaining to religious freedoms, will soon be in line with the European standards.

"The voice of the Vatican is a voice of high reputation within the European community," Miloshoski said, adding that he was much pleased with the Holy See's backing of Macedonia's strategic goal - EU membership.

Miloshoski added that the relations between Macedonia and Vatican are based on high confidence and intensive co-operation.

Minister Miloshoski and Archbishop Mamberti also discussed about choosing a good reason for Pope Benedict XVI to visit the region.

Asked by a reporter on whether Vatican is willing to help overcome the perennial dispute between Macedonian Orthodox Church and the Serbian Orthodox Church, Archbishop Mamberti gave a diplomatic answer, saying the Pope supports the dialogue among the sister Orthodox Churches.

I'm a devout Catholic, and I have to admit I don't know anything about Macedonia, or what its inclusion in the EU would mean (if anything).

But I have to say, I get a little annoyed when The Church opines on topics political that have nothing to do with The Faith.

Does the pope have any suggestions on what caliber of pistol should be Macedonia's police standard issue? Should their electricity be 110 or 220 volts? PAL or NTSC television? Tastes great or less filling?

see post 6, the EU forces abortion and the homosexual agenda on its countries. there are other threads where the articles read that some countries in the EU want OUT, and can’t get out.

This was not an infallible statement. But, you know, there’s one thing that recent history has taught us: the Holy Father has been proven right by history far more than he’s been proven wrong.

Are you not aware that the Holy See has been a sovereign entity for over 1500 years, has been exchanging ambassadors for even longer, and is recognized as a sovereign state today by more than 150 nations?

Yes, and I still don’t think its The Pope’s place to be opining on politics.

Question No1: Is Vatican (The Holy See) member or EU? If not ( and it is not), the support to Macedonia to enter EU is interfering in internal Aaffairs of EU, because it is none of Vatican's bunsiness.

Question No2: Vatican is not member of NATO. Does anyone over there in The hOly See ponders how Vatican's role to support Roman Catholics living in non-NATO states will be affected by blattant pro-NATO policy? One would think that Vatican learned something from WWII. Question No3: Macedonian "Orthodox Church" is a NGO created by Communists, it is NOT recognized by ANY of Orthodox Christian churches AS a church. Vatican's support to "the dialogue among the sister Orthodox Churches" is not only nonsense, it is deliberate insult. It is dalogue between Orthodox church and NGO pretendig to be one.

Archbishop Mamberti is no diplomat. He is putting BXVI to awkward position by saying that "the Pope supports the dialogue among the sister Orthodox Churches"

"Macedonian Orthodox Church" can not be recognized because it was created by laymen. BXVI knows that for sure. Another wonderful example of incompetence of staff putting superior in the tight spot.
