I don’t think that’s it. I’m not real big on the rules, but I believe it’s the JAZZ that are bound as much as Derek. Maybe someone else who knows more about it will chime in on the contract issue, but I think you’re wrong about his motives too.

Long ago, the Phoenix SUNS had a player named Mustaf, I believe. I never learned what ultimately, happened, but it was alleged at one point that he’d hired a cousin to kill a woman who was having his baby and refused to have an abortion. Do you recall this, and, if so, how’d it turn out?

Phoenix has several leading medical concerns...Cancer, a heart institute and a pain center w/ a biometric chamber I wish he and his daughter the best, I really do. But Phoenix is also one the top teams in the league and they are poised for serious championship run. Again, sorry I'm so cynical.

I do think we need to hear of good people doing good things now and then. They’re out there in all of our communities, but the focus in the media is always on the aberrant, the deviant, the criminal, the weirdo, and the Democrat.

And the sad thing is even we do hear about it someone automatically assumes that there is a bad motive for it...

for the record...most athletes are good folks.....the only reason Fischer is in the news is that his daughter has the cancer.

I don’t think Fisher would have a place on th Suns’ team. They are loaded in the positions he could play. Fisher is doing the right thing for his family. He has been a team player everywhere he has been and never caused problems.
To: subterfuge
Why does he need out of his contract to go to another city? Because he wants to live in / very close to the city in which his daughter will be receiving treatment, and she's not going to be getting treatment in Salt Lake City...

He is also one hell of a ball player. Single handedly shut down Golden State. I'm reminded of a playoff series in 2001, the West Finals against San Antonio, a sweep of the Spurs by the Lakers. In the last game of that sweep, which preceded the second of their three titles, Derek Fisher was 6 for 7 from the field - ALL 3 POINTERS. He was also very active defensively.
And recall, two or three straight offseasons, he had to deal with a stress fracture in his foot...both of them, I think, though not both at once. Each time he rehabbed, he came back, he played with heart, he tried to mediate the mess that was Shaq and Kobe...
He was and is all class, and more than the departure of Shaq, the departure of Fisher really signaled the beginning of the end for the Laker franchise. IMO.

Derek Fisher was 6 for 7 from the field - ALL 3 POINTERS. He was also very active defensively....he is all class He is indeed all class, and is one of those rare individuals who step up when things are toughest. To quote Pacino from "Devil's Advocate": "Some people, you squeeze them, they focus. Others fold". Fisher focused, and then some. An asset to any team. Prayers for his daughter.

Houston has the MD Anderson Cancer Center adn TX Childrens Hospital practically next door to each other. There is not none better. Prayers sent.

The Vick’s and Pacman’s get a lot of attention. Nice to see an example of an athlete like Fisher.
