SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Utah Jazz agreed to release guard Derek Fisher from his contract Monday so he can concentrate on finding the best care for his 11-month-old daughter, who has cancer in her left eye.
Fisher said he wants to live in one of the six or seven cities being considered for Tatum's care. He didn't rule out playing for another NBA team but emphasized that his daughter's health is his No. 1 priority.

I posted this because it is so good to see a professional athlete doing what's right for the right reasons that I thought many others would find it interesting as well. For too long, the bad apples in professional sports have been in the news for their self-indulgent, excessive, bad and even criminal behavior. I hope Derek's example rubs off on some of our future professional stars. They're not all bad, of course, and today one of the good ones stands out.

God bless Derek and his little angel.

Too bad they won’t give him as much coverage as Paris Hilton.

He is also one hell of a ball player. Single handedly shut down Golden State.

As it should be. The man is fortunate to have the wealth to stop working and get the best medical care for his daughter, including moving to a new city with appropriate facilities. Hope everything works out well for his little girl.

He should join the Nets, and send his daughter to Hackensack University Medical Center. They have a fantastic pediatric cancer facility.

Good for him and for the Jazz. Will the NBA allow the team an exemption on the contract?

The best place to be is Boston. The city has second to none health care facilities.

No kidding. And to some extent that’s what takes away from the moral fiber of our nation. People don’t see honorable people to emulate. At one time, people were encouraged to emulate Saints, patriotic figures, inspiring historic and fictional characters. Today, they’re filled with a steady diet of despicable rogues by a tabloid press. Is it any wonder that Bill Clinton was popular when this is the culture we have and moral relativism is the ethos of our times?

Do you know how to ping the Utah freepers? I think they’d find this to be an interesting story, even though many of them have likely heard it by now.

He’s very poised, and for a guard he’s got a lot of muscle.

Her treatment, as I have understood it, has been somewhere in NYC. As such, the NETS would suit him.

Why does he need out of his contract to go to another city?
Let me guess, the cities he wants to go to are Phoenix, LA, Miami, Detroit or San Antonio.
Sorry for being so cynical, but I just don’t put NBA players high on the integrity list.
