Tancredo: Pardon The Agents, Mr. President
The Border Line (an immigration blog) ^ | Tuesday, July 3, 2007, 03:28 PM | By Eunice Moscoso

n the wake of President Bush’s clemency of former vice presidential chief of staff Lewis “Scooter” Libby, Rep. Tom Tancredo urged the president to “take it a step further” and fully pardon two former Border Patrol agents whose case has galvanized conservatives.

The agents — Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos — were convicted of shooting a suspected drug smuggler and trying to cover up the incident. They are serving 12 and 11 year sentences, respectively.

Supporters say the agents were convicted wrongly for protecting the U.S. border against criminal intruders. Their case has become a cause celeb for conservative talk show hosts and groups that advocate stronger immigration controls.

Tancredo, a GOP presidential hopeful, said that the sentences in the case were “grossly unfair and a result of an overzealous prosecutor.” He also said in a statement that the men were at risk of violent attacks at their current prison cell locations and that their families are suffering. Ramos was beaten by other inmates earlier this year.

“I hope the president will consider providing the same relief to these men and their families that he did yesterday to Mr. Libby,” Tancredo said.

U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton of San Antonio has stood by his prosecution of the agents.

"Helping people join health care associations, or starting health saving plans is a great idea. I support that, as well as allowing them to buy health insurance from wherever they want. That expands individual freedom and opportunities."

Libby deserved his commutation but not nearly as much as Ramos and Compean.

A letter to Ramos lets him know he has not been forgotten. It also lets the prison officials know. Letters can be brief, printed out and mailed.
He reportedly has lost 30 lbs. while in prison (placed in solitary for his own safety).
Solitary prisoners are not permitted reading material except for letters (and after a long struggle, Ramos was finally permitted a bible).
Ramos was/is not being punished, yet the punishment rules of solitary confinement were applied to him anyway. (Bureaucracy at work.)

The letters must be addressed EXACTLY as follows:

Ignacio Ramos #58079-180 FCI

Yazoo City Medium Federal Correctional Institution

P. O. Box 5888
Yazoo City, MS 39194

Hunter and Tancredo have both authored legislation to address this issue and are co-sponsors of each other's bills.

Mary Winkler of TN is getting 60 days in a mental hospital for killing her husband. Those BP agents were just the wrong sex it seems.

Bush and his cronies care more for illegal immigrant drug dealers than the border guards and combat soldiers who risk their lives at his behest.

Fortunately, it seems that the Haditha Marines may be getting fair hearings. I know one has already had the charges dismissed before it went to court martial.

I agree. Libby’s was a fake prosecution following a fake investigation of a fake crime about another fake investigation. If anyone deserved to be pardoned, in fact if anyone deserves to see his conviction thrown out, its Libby.

Compean and Ramos are in that category. They are in jail on trumped up charges and should be home with their families now. The prosecutor in that affair is another Fitz-Nifong who does need to be called to account.

Get the agents out of jail, they shot a drug smuggler.

Put Lidsey Graham, Arlen Specter, Shitoff and Kennedy in jail for shooting their constituents in the back!

Well...I sure don't want to get into it with you...or have some posse come down on me...but I have a problem with these two border agents...and intellectually dishonest fans of same.

Now...if somebody could show me substantiated proof that these two yo-yos:

1) KNEW ( not suspected) he was a drug smuggler when they shot him for running away.
2) KNEW about the drug loaded van as they confronted him.

Because THAT'S why President Bush hasn't intervened in the case.

Peoples' overall prejudiced view of border jumpers has clouded their judgment, IMHO.

Or maybe it’s your fetish for illegal aliens that makes you glad those two border patrol agents are in jail?
