A senior Al Qaeda figure in Iraq warned a British cleric back in April of plans to attack British targets, telling him "those who cure you will kill you", The Times is reporting.
The claim comes as police question eight suspects, all of whom appear to be doctors or have medical links, in connection with the botched car bombings in London and Glasgow.
Canon Andrew White told the newspaper that he met the unnamed Al Qaeda leader, who had travelled from Syria, on the sidelines of a religious reconciliation meeting in Amman, Jordan.
Canon White said that he had passed the warning along to a senior official at the British foreign ministry, but not the specific words.
When contacted by AFP a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman would only say: "The official in question doesn't recall the conversation that is supposed to have taken place."
According to Canon White, the Al Qaeda leader "talked to me about how they were going to destroy British and Americans. He told me that the plans were already made and they would soon be destroying the British."
"He said the people who cure you would kill you."
Canon White said that the man who delivered the warning, who was in his 40s, said at the time that the plans would be carried out in the coming weeks, and would target the British first.
He did not learn the man's identity until after the meeting and did not disclose it.
I read a lengthier article on this earlier. The Anglican still refuses to give the name of this individual and any other relevant information last I read (about four hours ago, can’t find the article).
Why, that’s ludicrous! Everyone knows there are no senior Al Qaeda figures in Iraq!

How nice, a “reconciliation meeting” with Al Qaeda terrorists. Are these clerics stupid or what? And to compound the matter, he won’t give any information that might save lives.
Here’s our warning: if you Muslims cause too much trouble, you’ll have to go home to the country of your origin. Radicals out - live the dream in sunny Baghdad... I’m sure the Mullahs of Iran will take the doctors - and their money and their freedom. I’ve never met the Muslim who wanted to go back to the old ME country to live.

I read a rather long article about Canon White earlier today. I wish I could remember where. The essence of it was that he has been doing some very good work in Iraq. (I have no idea how reliable this is.) I wonder if the new Prime Minister would listen to anything he had to say, being as it’s not nice stuff about Muslims and might create some discord.
If that’s true then there is no reason not to treat him as an enemy agent. By withholding any information at all, even the littlest detail, he’s guilty.

The British aren’t the first. They have already infiltrated and intimidated the whole of Continental Europe and cowed them into silence. They are following the path of the nazi’s in the ‘30’s. Isolate Britain now and the U.S. will be forced to stand alone.
He is clergy and there could be an angle there, but I agree with you. This guy could save an untold number of lives by giving information on people who have proclaimed their intent to commit mass murder.
For over a month now there has been a lot of talk on the terrorists websites about attacks in Europe and in the last week they have been talking about attacks in the US.
So does this mean stay away from Muslim doctors?!!
There is no excuse for enemy sympathizers. None.
