This man doesn’t even believe the Constitution is a living document, he believes it’s a dead document.

Correction....

It’s survivability rate.

"Yes, we’re going to review all of them, including Clinton’s, Bush one, Bush two, we’ll go back as far as they want,"...

One wonders if Conyers would refer to Adams 1 and Adams 2, Johnson 1 and Johnson 2, Harrison 1 and Harrison 2, or Roosevelt 1 and Roosevelt 2.

Of course, we know the next Clinton Administration will go by the name of Rodham...

A House Judiciary Committee hearing into the decision to commute the sentence of former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby will also take a look at other presidential pardons,...

Sounds like he doesn't know the diff between 'commute' and 'pardon'.

I'm always amazed how they must take an oath to 'uphold the Constitution' when they don't even know it's contents.

The regulations contained in this part are advisory only and for the internal guidance of Department of Justice personnel. They create no enforceable rights in persons applying for executive clemency, nor do they restrict the authority granted to the President under Article II, section 2 of the Constitution.

The only relevant section. The Pres can pardon whoever he likes, whenever he likes.

If Congress is offended enough, they can impeach him and remove him from office. Otherwise, end of discussion.

Does this include Jimmy Carter’s pardon of all the Vietnam War deserters who fled the country? And also Carter’s granting John F’n Kerry an honorable discharge after all those years. Carter came after Nixon, so according to Conyers’ time frame he should look into this.

Ooooh. For something this important he should move the hearings back down to the basement.

Apparently John Conyers is either: (A) calling for a Constitutional Convention or (B) an idiot.

I choose the latter..

I'm willing to give Conyers the benefit of the doubt and say both A & B. ;)

Conyers is such a tool.

Let’s assume Scooter Libby did lie on purpose (just for argument’s sake).

1. Libby KNEW that he wasn’t the one who leaked to Robert Novak.

2. As soon as the Identities Protection Act was referenced, Libby KNEW (or should have quickly known) that he didn’t violate the Act.

So, Libby had no motive to lie for his own self-protection. Now, why did he lie?

3. Was he protecting Cheney?

Apparently not. From the testimony presented, he lied about when he first heard about Valerie Plame and who he heard it from. So, his lie was not to protect anyone, BECAUSE HE KNEW NO LAW HAD BEEN BROKEN.

I would love for someone (actually, a Democrat) to explain what Libby was trying to do by lying. His lies weren’t protecting anyone. He knew there was no crime and he knew he wasn’t the leaker.

Changing gears here, does Conyers realize that as it stands. Libby was fined FIVE TIMES the amount that Sandy Berger was fined. Libby will lose his law license if his conviction stands. Oh, his CONVICTION. Does COnyers realize that Bush didn’t pardon Libby, he only commuted the egregious 30 month prison sentence?

Yes, unemployment hoovers around 15% for Detroit. Wikipedia has these stats as well.

The per capita income for the city was $14,717. 26.1 percent of the population and 21.7 percent of families were below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 34.5 percent of those under the age of 18 and 18.6 percent of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.

Even the poor aren't so stupid as to stay on Rep. Conyer's plantation. Since he took over the seat (1965) about 1/2 the population have left! It would be very difficult to find any other city or district in America that has seen it's population fall by such a large amount.

(This, of course has meant that his district has been continuously gerrymandered for him to keep it majority black. At some point he decided he could equally well represent the largest Muslim enclave in the USA and now has Dearborn in his district.)
