MEXICAN President Felipe Calderon is a lot like an uninvited dinner guest who arrives empty-handed and has the gall to complain about the food. When the immigration-reform bill collapsed last Thursday, he wasted no time criticizing the Senate's "grave error."
He warned that "by closing the door to legal immigration, the only thing the U.S. Senate is doing is opening the door to illegal immigration, which is precisely what Americans do not want."
Pass the potatoes, Mr. President, and kindly listen. Yes, Americans are sick of this problem, and many shared your desire to see the reforms pass. But the Senate isn't the one opening doors to illegal immigration. It's Mexico.
The U.S. government has spent decades trying to close those doors, only to be frustrated because Mexico refuses to do its part. Where were Mexico's police during the 1990s, when crowds regularly stood on the border firing shots or pelting the Border Patrol with rocks as officers attempted to stop nightly swarms of illegal migrants?
If Mexico had shown true cooperation and co-responsibility in fighting illegal immigration, the (border) wall would not have been necessary. Mexico could start by fixing what Calderon, as a candidate, described as the immigration problem's main cause: chronic underemployment and poverty. We welcome a realistic solution from Calderon that includes creating jobs in Mexico so its citizens will want to stay put.

And throw away the damn key........that goes for RNC's Mel Martinzes and all the elected dorks in the Senate who tried to push amnesty on us.
Americans are sick and tired of being pawns for this globaloney AND for US foreign policy gone amuck.
Any 2008 candidate that does not perceive issues through the prism of the red white and blue will be given their walking papers.
Amen.
I would go further, any person trying to transfer funds out of the United States should be required to show proof of citizenship or US nationality. Foreign nationals should be required to show a green card, if a resident alien, or a valid passport and visa, if applicable. Normally the only foreign nationals who do not have a green card, or a visa are tourists that are here for less than a month. No documents, no transfer.

Yes, and we don’t. The Mexican government is looking out for the best interests of Mexicans, by our government is not looking out for the best interests of Americans. Our government, instead, seems to be looking out for the best interests of Mexicans, as well. We could put a quick stop to a lot of this by simply putting a confiscatory tax on all the money sent to Mexico through businesses such as Western Union, say 50 percent.
I agree with you 100%, Liz! I wish you were in the U.S. Senate.
Oh my——the Senate would never be the same-—but that would be good——LOL.
Liz, I have to agree with the rest of the posters. Your posts are some of the best and with the most original thought.
However, I think we need to keep up with the OAS on a daily basis. They boast of $60 billion in remittances from the US with only $20 billion going to Mexico. These deals have been made by Bush and socialists in this administration,(traitors). The banks are part of this take over.

For those who are unaware, Colin Powell, signed an agreement on 9/11/2001, while we were being bombed with the OAS.

ACTION Pass the word, FReepers. We need to stay on top of this.
And receiving an infusion of $25 billion into its economy from those in the US. Mexico has a vested interest in keeping the existing system going.
