I know who David Vitter is, I live about 120 miles east of New Orleans.
What I am saying is, I thought Livingston ran like a coward when challenged on his affair. He shoulda stayed in office. He hurt his district, and indeed the entire region, by stepping down.
And I don’t equate being anti-gambling with being pro-family. Many families in Biloxi owe their survival to the existence of gambling.
If Livingston didn’t retire, then Vitter would never got elected to the US House and eventually Senate.
I disagree, it wasn’t cowardly, it demonstrated enormous character for Livingston to give up the most powerful post in the House because he wasn’t going to allow the media and the rodents to use him as a convenient whipping-boy over the impeachment matter (i.e. “See, the Republican Speaker denied/lied about having sex !”). The Democrats WANTED him to stay... badly.
...and as Kuksool pointed out, if Livingston hadn’t resigned, Vitter would never have been elected, and we might not have that Senate seat today.
Alot of families live off the liquor industry as well.
Gambling is destructive to the family.
