Fred D. Thompson has decided not to formally announce his presidential campaign this month and may wait until September to end the suspense for Republicans, according to several sources in his campaign.
This is becoming almost comical.

I’d say it is more likely that the ComPost is making up news again. Other stories have Fred declaring in August.

He’s been “declaring” for the last couple months. What’s the problem? It makes me wonder why he won’t just announce, instead of pussyfooting around the issue.

This is becoming almost comical. The most commical part being the news speculation media.
Looks to me like the media can't stand the fact that Thompson isn't making an announcement on their schedule and each outlet has to get their guess in as to when the announcement will be.

Guess he should change what has been working so well so far, just to make a few grousing freepers happy.

September makes sense to me. August is all about vacations and getting kids back to school. No one is paying attention. Wait until September to get the most coverage, and ride the momentum into the primaries.

There’s a guy from Arizona that will can make a deal on some slightly used campaign headquarters.

Other stories have Fred declaring in August. I remember when the "other stories" had Fred declaring FOR SURE in July.

He will probably wait until after the Ames straw poll. If he announces now and gets defeated in the straw poll his campaign will be completely deflated. The problem is that by delaying the announcement he probably won’t raise as much money as the declared candidates.

There used to be a big play in the 1930s called, Waiting For Lefty. It won't surprise me a bit if we soon start hearing the phrase, Waiting For Freddy.

Waiting to see what he should say about the surge, amongst lots of other things, probably.

This is just the silly season.
Why should Fred Waste time and effort until the field has thinned itself somewhat?
he can “Explore” all he wants, and doesn’t have to compete directly as simply a voice in the crowd, while Hitlery and everyone else is spending a million bucks a week....

The candidate is doing fine without formally announcing although he has actually effectively announced by registering his pre-campaign corporation which he must do if he wants to accept campaign donations. He is already in.

All the free publicity on when he will “announce”. Priceless~~!
You are seeing a master political operator at the top of his game.

I’m hoping Thompson states that he will make an announcement FOR SURE on July 16. Then, with all the press attending the event, Thompson announces to the world that his favorite humor blog is the DUmmie FUnnies.

He is in show business and no doubt knows how to pull maximum tension from a scene.
