Presidential candidate John Edwards has lost the lead in his home state, a new poll shows.
Edwards, the former U.S. senator from North Carolina, got support from 26 percent of likely Democratic primary voters in a state survey conducted by Public Policy Polling. But his chief Democratic rivals for the presidency, New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, each pulled down 27 percent.
Eleven percent were undecided, while 10 percent backed another candidate in the July 2 survey.
In the group's April poll, conducted shortly after Edwards announced his wife's cancer had returned, he had a big lead; 39 percent supported him. His numbers have slid since then.
In the Republican race, Fred Thompson is the front-runner. Thirty-four percent of likely GOP primary voters here said they'd support the former Tennessee senator.
Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor, was next at 15 percent, followed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (13 percent), Arizona Sen. John McCain (7 percent) and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (6 percent).
The Democratic and Republican surveys had margins of error of 3.8 percent and 4 percent, respectively. The primary is in May.

Just as Al Gore couldn't win his own state (Tennessee) it seems that North Carolina has finally figured out Silky Pony. On the other side, it seems that Rudy McRomney is not playing too well in the South.

Beat me to it!
A Gore repeat.
Edwards has no chance at all.

You stole my post. That's what I was gonna say but you beat me to it.
Which Dem running would, in your opinion, be the most difficult to defeat? The easiest to defeat?

BooHoo this guy should just go ahead and hang it up. He such a laughing boy on the local news. I swear he is in is own Bill Clinton wannabe universe.

Agreed - Edwards is a loser. I’m just wondering if he’ll pull a page from the Max Cleland playbook and carp about how the heartless Republicans conspired to attack his wife for having cancer, causing him to lose. He is total pond scum. Capable of any perverted argument.

Good thing Fred is a person and not a horse then.

I'll state it another way since you don't see the obvious analogy. It's too bad people assume he is a candidate even though he hasn't declared.

I guess being married to a rude windbag trailer trash wife isn't the political asset it's cracked up to be.

Oh, we understand your snarky analogy loud and clear. Why does Fred bother you so?

Hopefully they’re continue ignoring him.
He and his wife and the rest of the family are totally irrelevant.

If stating a fact is "snarky" then so be it.
Why does Fred bother you so?
Fred doesn't bother me. He may very well turn out to be the best candidate,if he runs. It is interesting to see the level of desparation amongst Republicans have as to treat someone as a candidate before it is a fact. Until then it's just an assumption.

I pity the fool who .... is you.
People have been treating McCain as a candidate even though there is a substantial likelihood that he will not even make it to the first primary (and there are others in that boat).
You're a fool to attach so much importance to a legalistic "declaration of candidacy".

You’ve got to be kidding, right? Fred is running the most brilliant campaign I’ve ever seen. There is no way he isn’t “running.” He just doesn’t want to play the same old game, and I think it is awesome to watch.
You keep telling yourself he might not run... LOL.
And I thought it was just libs who were obtuse...

I love the reference to Silky Pony.
Could someone with internet video experience throw together a fake Edwards ad featuring a little girl stroking the hair of My Little Pony or something and then post it here? That would be a blast.
Thanks.
