BAGHDAD — "Although Bush administration officials have frequently lashed out at Syria and Iran, accusing it of helping insurgents and militias here, the largest number of foreign fighters and suicide bombers in Iraq come from a third neighbor, Saudi Arabia, according to a senior U.S. military officer and Iraqi lawmakers."

"About 45% of all foreign militants targeting U.S. troops and Iraqi civilians and security forces are from Saudi Arabia; 15% are from Syria and Lebanon; and 10% are from North Africa, according to official U.S. military figures made available to The Times by the senior officer. Nearly half of the 135 foreigners in U.S. detention facilities in Iraq are Saudis, he said."

It's part of the Leftwing ambition to have the USA attack Saudi Arabia.

Even if this number is true the Saudis we are finding in Iraq are not there at the direction of the Saudi Arabian government. In fact, as active AlQaida affiliates their ultimate aim is to overthrow the Saudi Arabian government and institute a new Caliphate dedicated to oppressing women, killing homosexuals, and conducting daily demonstrations.

To that degree the Leftwing in this country and AlQaida affiliates in Iraq and Saudi Arabia cannot be differentiated.

People like Harry Reid, Teddy Kennedy and the like should be incarcerated for the duration of the war at which time we might have an opportunity to sort all of this out.

Agreed. Remember, 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9-11 came from Saudi Arabia. All the more reason we should have taken on these Muslim bastards on our timetable. If there ever was a call for total war, 9-11 should have been the event which triggered it.

You are correct on the whole -

Reality is there is a difference between State sponsored individuals (from a given State) and simply wanntabe terrorists joining the fight (who happen to originate from a given State / Country).

The notion that we should attack Saudi Arabia is absurd (given the current Gov't). Iran and Syria are much more of Gov't directed NS threats.

BUT the fact remains: No Saudi dynasty, no Al Qaeda. It is like many monarchies. Half of the family against the other half. Furthermore neither half wants a Shia government in Iraq. We, unfortunately, are caught in the middle of a Sunni-Shia war, we and the Kurds. Why we haven’t encouraged any more than we may have the Kurish opposition in Iran, I cannot guess.

For all their antipathy toward the Shia the Saudis sure seem happy to take their money at Mecca.

And no, the Royal family's existence didn't cause AlQaida to pop up out of the desert. The reasons are far more complex ~

The Saudis are not happy to see Baghdad—and its oil—in the hands of the Shia, Without Saudi money and recruits the rebellion in Iraq would haven been put down years ago. The Iranians, of course, are also feeding the fire. Yes, the reasons are complex, It arises from our decision to make the House of Saud a WWII ally because of the oil buried in its sands. So we have fabulously rich dynasty that is as rooted in theological myth as the old monarchy of Japan.

That's the old Shell Oil/Standard Oil of Indiana thesis ~ thing is that Saudi probably had a million and a half population then and could have been mopped up in a difficulty weekend or two if anyone had wanted to.

Guess old FDR wasn't as bloodthirsty as the Germans thought.

A Texas oilman named DeGolyer was sitting on the information about the size of the reserves. Fact is that no one would believe how big they were.

15 of the 19 hijackers on 9-11 came from Saudi Arabia

And the "Axis of Evil" didn't contain one Sunni Jihadist group.

Go figure..
