Democrats in the Senate have finally taken the fight to the enemy in Iraq. Unfortunately for our troops battling terrorists in Baghdad, Diyala and Anbar, the Democrats' enemy in Iraq is comprised of Republican senators who refuse to surrender to Majority Leader Mullah Harry Reid.
Frustrated by Republican die-hards who are blocking an up or down vote on a Democratic proposal to abandon the troops in Iraq just as Gen. Petraeus' surge strategy is showing extraordinary success, Mullah Reid is vowing to torture Republicans with a vote surge by making them stay up all night in order to break their will.
In a tactic reminiscient of practices at the terrorist detention center at Guantanamo decried by Democrats, Mullah Reid will try to coerce Republicans by denying them sleep and using stress positions by making them vote all night on the Senate floor.
To increase the pressure on recalcitrant Republicans, Mullah Reid has ordered the deployment of lumpy rollaway beds in the halls of the Senate. Video of the beds was shown on Capitol Hill in what experts said was a coded message to fellow Democrats to get a good night's sleep in order to be fully rested for the assault on the Republicans.
If the vote surge does not succeed tonight, Mullah Reid promised to continue to wage war on the Republicans all through summer until they surrender unconditionally.
Al Qaeda in Iraq issued a statement on Mullah Reid's vote surge that experts are struggling to decipher. The message, posted on a website based in Pakistan, said: ROTFLMAOPIMP.
Can anyone please explain why the beds are necessary..or rather, why all the GOP senators have to be there? I thought it takes UC to bring anything to the floor for a vote..so wouldn’t only ONE GOP senator have to be there to object?
Great post Kristinn.
Here’s an idea. While they’re up all night, make them read the Constitution, especially the part about the President being the Commander In Chief. I realize this may be a hardship on most of the Senators, since they are unfamiliar with the document, but this may be a chance to accomplish something.
That was pretty good, Kristinn. I think you may have missed your calling as a humorist.
That’s my understanding too. And as Old Hoosier pointed out elsewhere, every time a Republican is recognized, all he need do is object and request a quorum call. then Everybody has to be woken and called in.
Instead of sending in beds, send in guns and ammunition.
So why didn’t Frist do these all nighters? If Frist heard one Democrat say they would filibuster, he would just CAVE.
Bumping and pinging.
Reid said he’d be holding votes and quorum calls throughout the night.
Thank you. The Democrats haven’t fought this hard since they saved Bill Clinton from removal from office for his felonious conduct.
Thanks. I’ve missed a lot of callings in my life :-)
That's because he has always had the midset of being in the MINORITY. He never learned to really lead. Said it before and I'll say it again: he's gutless and should NEVER have been in the leadership.
You need an answering machine.
I know it's an understatement, but I find the Dems' conduct regarding the war DESPICABLE!
I don’t think he was Gutless....just a Gentle Man who didn’t have the Hatred for the Democrats that the Democrats have for Republicans.
“So why didnt Frist do these all nighters?”
Because the Media would attack him as “Uncaring”, and blast him for “Not recognizing the rights of the minority”, etc, etc.
The RATS seem to forget they signed on to the plan where a progress report in September will determine our future course of action in Iraq. Checking my calender.....hmmm - its still July! I would also like to know where they got the magic wand which will make Al Qaeda in Iraq “disappear” when our troops leave.
Naw, forget it. Not with this no spine bunch.
