Appearing on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe,' Disgraced former CBS producer Mary Mapes said she is “uncomfortable” watching Katie Couric anchor the network's evening news. Mapes came to this conclusion not because she is a woman as Katie would like you to believe, instead because she looks “drugged” and “kidnapped.” Video available here

.Partial transcript:

Mapes on Couric: She is "...someone who looks like they've been kidnapped and drugged and are making a hostage tape. It has nothing to do with her being a male or female, it's just not comfortable to watch."

Mary Mapes is jealous because Mapes has a face that was made for radio.

This only seems to be a back door method for Danno Rather to get in some snide comments. What a sore loser.

Well, I guess that makes it unanimous.

Excellent point. I believe he and Mapes are still buddies.

What you say about Mapes is certainly true, but she happens to be right this time. To thoroughly confuse metaphors, Mapes has a face that would stop a clock, but even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

She has a drug test faxed from a Kinko’s in Abilene to prove it.

Actually, I think Mapes is spot on in this instance. No matter how dishonest you are you can’t work in the TV industry for 20 years and not pick up a few insights. She’s absolute right - Katie is uncomfortable to watch and this description fits her to a T.

As bad as Couric is, nobody is talking about the other reality which is that if Thomas Jefferson himself were to reappear and they stuck him in the same time slot reading the same tripe, still no-one would watch. I’m not saying that Couric doesn’t suck, because she does, but the format is dead as well. It’s a double whammy. New media beats old media every time. Deal with it.

Is there anyone that has said Couric looks good in this role?

Nope.

Is there anyone that has said Couric will improve?

Nope.

Mary Mapes just told us the sun rises in the east, and people want to give this woman who tried to change an election cycle by promoting forged documents against a sitting US President ‘credit’ for it?

What the hell is wrong with this picture?

Sheesh.

I wouldn’t know about Couric because I haven’t watched a single second of her show. I do know that Mary Mapes is no Helen of Troy.

If you really want to see a poison pen column, one of the NY paper’s TV critics did a review of a Victoria Beckham TV show yesterday and it was hilariously scathing. It was written on an Ann Coulter level of poison pen brilliance and was a treat to read. I didn’t see it here on FR although it was posted on Drudge.

I hesitate to agree with Mapes but, on this one point, I can. The few times I’ve seen Katie broadcasting, I’ve felt the same way. Her face is wrong—plastic surgery that shows? I dunno. Maybe she looks uncomfortable. Whatever it is, I wouldn’t watch her if I liked her.

Ms. Mapes’s comments come across as meowing and hissing. What is it about liberals? They think they’re morally superior, but when push comes to shove, they’re as mean-spirited and vile as it’s possible to be.

If I am not mistaken this is Couric's format. This is what she wanted as the format.

I also mean the whole concept of tuning in at 5:30 or 6:30 to watch a half hour of the day’s “news” is a concept that is dying. The premise simply doesn’t make sense any more. It’s about as relevant in today’s world as 15 minute “newsreels” are in a movie theatre. 50 years ago people watched the news as a “newsreel” between features at the movies. Nobody does that any more either. Times changed. What worked a generation ago, doesn’t work today.

Well, I agree with Eric Blair (a.k.a. George Orwell) that "a man of forty is responsible for his face" - in this case it's a woman of fifty.

She looks like Monty Burns with a blond wig.

Wow, if anyone looks like she was drugged and kidnapped it's Mapes.

I'll bet nobody offered to pay a ransom, either.

In fact, the kidnappers probably had to pay someone to get her off their hands.

I was going to say something similar, but without the metaphors. The metaphors are amusing, though because they sound like something that Dan Rather would have said.

My wife watched that show last night. I had to get up and leave. Why anyone would watch such drivel is beyond me.

For a woman of fifty, Katie Couric looks perfectly passable.

Now now. If I were on a boat, near shore, and Mary Mapes showed up on that shore, I would launch my ship, and I am confident that there are at least a thousand more like me.

If Mapes could only look through the television and see what is sitting on the other side of the screen. The tens of viewers who watched Rather and who watch Couric and Morning Joe, are all either drugged or being held hostage, the fact is the bottom of the MSM sewer of which Mapes is familar has NO free will viewers.

It must be the chair. Dan Rather fit this description as well.

There is a big difference. You go through a thorough 'cleansing' before a colonoscopy.

CBS Views does not have a similar process.
