Census: Skyrocketing numbers without medical coverage reflect migration -

WASHINGTON – While "Sicko" filmmaker Michael Moore is blaming greed and a broken health care system for the inability of Americans to get health-care insurance, it turns out most without coverage are illegal aliens.

According to the latest Census Bureau figures, 43.6 percent of non-citizens in the U.S. are without health insurance. In addition, 33.6 percent of those born elsewhere are without coverage.

By contrast, only 13.4 percent of native-born Americans are without health insurance. And 17.9 percent of naturalized citizens are without coverage.

The statistics will be no surprise to health-care providers. Hospital emergency rooms in Florida and California have been forced to close their doors as a result of increased demands by uninsured and under-insured patients – many of them illegal aliens.

"40 million without healthcare" is an American problem and not an open borders problem?

Rising prison population and its cost are an American problem and not an open borders problem?

Broken public education system is an American problem and not an open borders problem?

Rising numbers of DUIs and rising cost of car insurance is an American problem and not an open borders problem?

What does it take to STOP the propanganda?

interesting. however where I live now (WV) most people are covered by insurance - medicaid/medicare. My insurance agent says most businesses here have little to no health insurance for employees.

maybe we are all illegals.

sigh

No evidence is presented in the article to suggest that most uninsured people in America are illegal aliens.

It does argue that immigrants (presumably mostly legal, since illegals don't tend to fill out census surveys) are more likely than citizens to lack health insurance. But even then we're not talking about "most" uninisured people in America.

Yet one more case of WND/Newsmax sensationalism getting ahead of supportable facts.

1) It say most NOT all.

2) If the illegals were removed from the equation wouldn't the problem have been easier to deal with? Would health insurance have become so expensive if medical cost weren't inflated by medical providers to cover the illegals who are getting the care free? Read the article!

I have seen before that the uninsured are made up mostly of illegals and twenty somethings who choose to spend their money on other things. What I don’t understand is why hospitals don’t make those hardworking illegals who send billions home pay for their care.

Ah the World Nut Daily. First the writer claims MOST people without insurance are illegal aliens. Then near the bottom he says 25 percent without insurance are illegal (and then says it MIGHT be 50 percent. Nothing to back that up. Since when is 25 percent “most?”

This article is more slanted and poorly written than the bad stuff in the MSM.

Emergency rooms are required to treat everyone who comes in. If you don’t have insurance, the hospital just becomes another creditor hoping to collect. You could probably give the hospital fake billing information, as well.

w/o health insurance.
--------------------------
43.6 percent of non-citizens
17.9 percent of naturalized citizens are without coverage.
13.4 percent of native-born Americans

So if 43.6 % of non-citizens have no health insurance, can we figure that of the "40 million w/o health insurance" close to all the 20 million illegals are w/o?
Can we also figure that if they are their "anchor babies" are w/o?
Seems already MORE than half of the "40 million"?
[ And if even when immigrants are legal they are large chunk of that "40 million" w/o - isn't this another reason to close the border now?

The percentages in the lead paragraphs (which I cite) are "According to the latest Census Bureau figures"

The Cosman estimates later in the article are obviously too low and can't be cited as refuting the Census figures and more realistic conclusions draw from them

Let me respond as Queen Hillary would.

“Look, we are all americans and all in this together. The status of undocumented workers and their children is not important when it comes to universal health care. This is a moral issue, as well as a social justice issue (thrown in for Edwards voters .) The American public will demand a universal /comprehensive/ singlepayer/ fair taxpayer funded system once properly educated, and we have the schools and the media. We just need more campaign finance reform and fairness doctrine to keep the evil profit makers from distorting our message.”

Sound like her yet???

I think the reason they don’t try harder to collect is that the feds are bailing the hospitals out. That becomes a perverse incentive to provide unaffordable services to illegals.

What I don’t understand is why hospitals don’t make those hardworking illegals who send billions home pay for their care.

Because YOU (the taxpayer) already pays for it. It's easier to collect from the taxpayer than someone who can't speak English, doesn't have a permanent address (they are willing to give out) or a steady job (where their wages are reported), etc.

That's beside the fact they aren't allowed to ask anyone about their LEGAL status. (which makes no sense to me!)

Well, I barely have health insurance and I’m definitely not illegal! I’m in IT and thanks to offshoring & lack of permanent positions, I am a contractor. We don’t get things like benefits etc. We don’t even get vacation. I had to buy insurance on my own and the one I have is awful. But if I wanted something decent, I’d have to pay over $300/month. Since I spend maybe $300 a year on medical care, that is just stupid. So, I got a really basic policy for about $130 and it covers me and my daughter. Frankly, I’d rather not even have insurance and just pay my bill but a lot of doctors won’t see you if you don’t have insurance!

I believe you. The insurance companies can negotiate a better treatmentpayment fee than you can alone. One thing to consider is that local and federal governments mandate many treatments being covered, they charge the HMOs a number of fees and taxes (in MD we have a tax to pay for malpractice awards against doctors, as well as a tax for those uninsured) and force hospitals to pay for those uninsured that has no visable assets. In other words, liberal government broke it and now use that as an excuse to take it over.

Of course you don't need insurance if you're healthy. However, you'll see that it's very nice to have it in the event that you have an accident or come down with a serious disease.

The 22 year old son of a friend of mine came down with a rare brain and blood infection a couple of years ago -- treating him (he has made a near complete recovery) cost his insurance company about $1 million. If his family had had to pay that out of non-existant savings, he would be dead today.

While his condition is rare, I'm sure you know people who have been in car accidents or come down with cancer.

The first paragraph as posted is incorrect. I see that they tried to correct it on their website:

WASHINGTON – While "Sicko" filmmaker Michael Moore is blaming greed and a broken health care system for the inability of Americans to get health-care insurance, it turns out a heavy percentage of those without coverage are illegal aliens.

"Most" and "Heavy Percentage" are two very different things. I think it would be even more accurate to say "a heavy percentage of illegals are without coverage."

No. You've made some leaps in logic that would get you points taken off in Algebra class.
