Black Group Calls Senate Leaders “Hypocrites”

Liberal Senators Complaining About “Obstructionism" on Iraq Legislation Use the Same Tactics They Now Condemn to Block Judicial Nominees

Project 21 members say the liberal Senate leadership, which has embarked on an overnight session to "highlight Republican obstructionism" on consideration to legislation to withdraw troops from Iraq, is hypocritical, as these senators have used the same tactics they now condemn to block the confirmation of President Bush's judicial nominations over the past six-and-a-half years.

"The immoral duplicity of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and his henchmen once again unambiguously shows there are no depths too low for liberal politicians to plumb," said Project 21 Chairman Mychal Massie. "It is extraordinarily incongruous that, on one hand, Reid would complain about a conservative filibuster against an arbitrary and predetermined withdrawal date in Iraq while he and his gang have stalled on the confirmation of people such as Judge Southwick since the day President Bush announced his judicial first nominees."

Black Group Calls Senate Leaders “Hypocrites”

Wouldn't a group of a certain race, which excludes other people based on race, by definition racist? I thought these people hated racism? That must make them hypocrites themselves!

Do they restrict membership by race or are they simpley a group of blacks that have taken a position? I don’t know the answer but I would bet it’s the later. This is not the Congressional Black Caucus after all. Seems to me they make a great point and one that we should hope more “minorities” would have the pilitical openmindedness to make.

Not necessarily, IMO. They certainly would be if their actions and stances were anti-white. But just the fact that they are a 'black' group doesn't, in itself, make them racist.

My Kiwanis club has an all male membership. Does that make them anti-feminist? No. Other clubs are mixed gender, we've simply never had women show an interest in joining. And I've never spoken with a member who has stated opposition to female membership. Yet, we're all male. I apply the same logic to this black organization.

Now, I'm not familiar with them, so I may well be wrong on my assumption. Someone else would have to educate me if I am.

Project 21 is an initiative of The National Center for Public Policy Research to promote the views of African-Americans whose entrepreneurial spirit, dedication to family and commitment to individual responsibility has not traditionally been echoed by the nation’s civil rights establishment.

They are a group of black conservatives. Is this a bad thing to you?

I guess I don’t see hypocrisy in black conservatives banding together to fight for what they believe in, just as Christians, right-to-lifers, free marketers are all groups who band together to advance their cause. This is a group of folks who want to show that the civil rights groups don’t speak for them. Not hypocritical in my book.

There’s no hypocrisy in that. But there is rampant hypocrisy in both parties when it comes to the use of the filibuster. Each party hates it, and wishes the other side would stop using it . . . that is, until they wind up needing it.
