At a 1000.00 a plate, he can get a really nice pot and a good double pained window, even some lovely windows treatments...

As a former resident of Vestavia, I know what you mean, but they are people to, they put their pants on just like everybody else, albeit they are really nice pants and the valet just pressed them...

Don’t paint every successful person as elitist. Remember a large part of who we are comes from supporting the free enterprise and capitalist system. Also at least they support Conservatives, there is a large number of snots with lots of cash who love the Dems.

Thompson was born somewhere near the Shoals area.

And I’m saying Moore might run for president as a precursor to running for governor in ‘10. The presidential primary is not gonna be like last year. People in rural areas will actually vote in the Republican primary, whereas they couldn’t in ‘06 due to sheriff’s races.

He wouldn’t need much money, it’s not like he had much last time, and well, if he could duplicate his gubernatorial primary performance in the presidential preference primary, which is certainly possible, he’d probably carry the state. Jesse Jackson carried the state even though a majority of people voted against him. He could actually cause major problems in the southern primaries, to the point where it would probably tip the nomination to Giuliani, which would actually be what Mooreites want. They want an all out battle with business for control of every Southern state party. Then, he’d probably jump ship, and run as a third party candidate, and if that happened, it would trigger Bloomberg’s entry, and possibly someone else.

Even if it didn’t go that far, still, if Moore was just able to win the state’s delegates, which is possible, you’d have to give him speaking time at the convention. Any outcome that occurred would certainly bost his prospects in 2010, which is going to be the first time the gov’s office is open in 24 yrs. I’ve always thought ole’ Roy was in it for himself, and I still remain convinced of that. One thing about Roy is, he does use class warfare.

It probably is who you think it is.

Still dodging the bullet, I see, DV. :)

I would imagine there were a great many Democrats who also phoned their Senatesitters during the recent Amnesty siege, so, unfortunately, I don’t think that was any indication of Republican strength, but, still encouragingly, an indication of some good old American spirit.

I hate to see you give up, too, Krankor. The Republican Party went far to the left of me way back before GHWB’s day, but I am still with it. Because the party deserted it’s platform, I no longer contribute to the RNC, preferring to donate directly to my candidates.

In case you missed it in another thread, here is the last paragraph of an article which appeared in the Washington Times on July 16, which is in line with the subject matter here tonight.

“Pundits: Thompson top dog — for now”, by Ralph Z. Hallow

“Thompson’s vulnerability to changes of campaign-finance hypocrisy was highlighted over the weekend, when ABC News ran an online “analysis” accusing the Republican of taking advantage of “loopholes” in federal law to avoid reporting his fundraising amounts, as other candidates were required to do by midnight Sunday.”

And in that other thread, 2ndDivisionVet stated that Fred had raised $5 million even before announcing his candidacy.
I have been asking DV where he came across that information with no reply. This thread says this will be his FIRST fund raiser.

This has nothing to do with class envy.

I own my own business, but for Thompson to hold a private funraising dinner in “Mountain Brook” does not excite me to pull the lever for Thompson.

I’m glad they had a leisurely time, dining on bologna sanwiches and and RC. cola.

What do you think?

#1) It’s next Monday, so it hasn’t happened yet and #2) Money is the mother’s milk of politics—do you suggest that Senator Thompson not raise money for his upcoming campaign? Every politician seeks money from all economic strata, even poverty pimp John Edwards and Saint Hillary.
Fred isn’t worth $250 million, so he can’t loan himself money like Mitt Romney, so he needs committed conservatives to step up. I have done so, and so have hundreds of thousands of others, soon to be millions!

Well, he is going where the money is in Alabama. I can’t see Hillary getting an invite there. Although I have seen more and more of those “blue dot” bumper stickers in other parts of OTM (Over the Mountain suburbs for those unfamiliar with Bham)

Which makes me wonder why he is going there for his debut in the state

Maybe Mr. Cooper invited him first.

Politics runs on money. Why not go to the people WITH it to help you get started? If others with not so much want to join up they can do so. It will be the smaller donations of LOTS of people that makes up the lion's share of most candidates' campaign war chest.

When push comes to shove, the wealthy person only has one vote, just like you do.

I’ll never give a dime to any Republican. The movement is dead. We lost. I’m stunned. I just can’t believe it.

Stuned? Are you series? Perhaps a shower will make you feel better.

Paperdoll:

Please re-read the article. His first fundraiser in ALABAMA!! And the $5 million was from an article I read about a week ago, and I’m afraid I don’t have the time to find it again. You might do a Drudge or Google search.
