MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. - Potential presidential candidate Fred Thompson will hold his first Alabama fundraiser Monday evening at the Mountain Brook home of Jim Cooper.
Cooper, who's president of Cooper Construction Company, said he was pleased to host Thompson's first event in Alabama.
Cooper said tickets for the "Friends of Fred Thompson" event are $1,000 per couple.
I’ll never give a dime to any Republican. The movement is dead. We lost. I’m stunned. I just can’t believe it.
Mountain Brook is the 2nd wealthiest city in the country. Once you figure in cost of living they are, far and away, the wealthiest. The average income is 115k per household. We’ll have a good showing.
Has he declared his candidacy yet?
Have a couple of buddies in Vestavia that are looking at going.
Of course they can afford it as well...
As my dad use to say,S^it or get off the pot.
These little get togethers he has are among the power base, those who want a little more conservatism after Bush, but also know how important it is to be in the win column come 2008.
Which makes me wonder why he is going there for his debut in the state
There are several areas of the state with comparable household incomes that well, are not self-governing. There’s actually no difference between going there and going to a similar area in the other part of the state, but still, it’s something that opponents might try and play against him to shave off votes.
Unfortunately, Republican primaries in Alabama are now subject to the exact kind of class consciousness crap that the Democrats have long had, mainly because we keep bringing in extra Democrats every day.
I’m sorry that you’ve given up hope. I disagree with many of the policies of the current GOP leadership, such as: bigger government, amnesty for illegals, kow-towing to the democrats, NCLB and the drug giveaway with Ted Kennedy, etc. However, this is a country with two major parties, and that’s not going to change anytime soon. Do you propose going over to the other side or giving up? We can take back the Republican party! We have the numbers, which was evident during the shamnesty fiasco! “Combat tactics, Mr. Ryan”
Fred read on down the script...
My Dad said “don’t use the pot unless you have to.”
“Cooper, who’s president of Cooper Construction Company, said he was pleased to host Thompson’s first event in Alabama”
I hope this Cooper guy doesn’t have 50 illegals working for his construction company : )
he doesn't have a pot to piss in,or a window to throw it out of.
I live in Birmingham.
The fact that at 1,000 plate fundraiser was held in “Mountain Brook” is not a surprise.
What does the elitist “Republican” have to offer me.
Cocktails and chummy conversation.
What has the “Republican” party become?
In a word, as a resident of the area, @uck Mountian Brook.
He has, by launching his testing the waters program.
When Fred mops the floor with Hillary, or whomever the freaky dem candidate is, all the Fred skeptics are going eat their words with a fork and spoon and then marvel at the great strategy Fred used to bag the White House.
What part of B’ham?
Exactly what I am talking about. The phrase “Mountain Brook” has had a negative connotation statewide ever since the days of Wallace, when he used to always rail against the town.
For my part, I personally could afford the dinner, but my problem is that it is being hosted at the other side of the state, Thompson could have picked a better place to go. Then again, Thompson is the first Alabama native to run for the presidency since Wallace. The thing with that though is, he grew up in one of the most left feaning white counties in the state.
But you help illustrate my point. I think there is a serious Roy Moore threat going into next year. I thought he’d lose in the primary, but Riley’s performance was more a function of how midterm primaries work in this state rather than real support for him. Moore still remains a threat next year, and I think he may seriously consider a run, just to gum up the works, similar to what Robertson did 20 years ago.
If he does, it’s hella more than 50. That wouldn’t cover his lawn service if it’s who I think it is.
I am totally confused. Are you saying Moore will run for president or the next gov. race?
Thompson was born in Alabama?
