“I’m in favor of a wall all along the entire border, but why start it here, where there’s local opposition? Why not start it in Arizona, where the ranchers are crying out from relief from armed-gangs migrating north over their land?”

Are these the same ranchers who are crying over having their land taken by the government to build the wall that will protect them from the armed gangs?

“Bush and Mexico are like Bill and Monica.”

I think you got the relationships a little backwards (either the former or the latter should be switched), but I get the point.

I don’t trust Chertoff or his motives.

Chertoff can spout DOUBLESPEAK faster than Snoop Doggy on Crack can Rap.

As it turns out the original bill to build the fence was nothing more than a fake bone to quell the maddening masses.

What is it that most in Washington D.C., say that honest citizens now have to “Trust but Verify” damn shame.

Damn, it’s bad times when elected officials can openly lie and the MSM the so called protector of free speech agrees with those lies.

I did a search and found some interesting information about their wall:

Most of the barrier (over 95% of total length) consists of a “multi-layered fence system” [26] ideally 50 m in width. The IDF’s preferred design has three fences, with pyramid-shaped stacks of barbed wire for the two outer fences and a lighter-weight fence with intrusion detection equipment in the middle. Patrol roads are provided on both sides of the middle fence, an anti-vehicle ditch is located on the West Bank side of the fence, and a smooth dirt strip on the Israeli side for “intrusion tracking”.

Some sections (less than 5% of total length) are constructed as a wall made up of concrete slabs up to 8 m in height and 3 m in width. Occasionally, due to topographic conditions other sections of the barrier will reach up to 100 m in width.[27] Wall construction (5%) is more common in urban settings, such as areas near Qalqilyah and Jerusalem, because it is narrower, requires less land, and provides more protection against snipers. In all cases there are regular observation posts, automated sensing devices and other apparatus. Gates at various points are controlled by Israeli soldiers.

The extra money that was going to go for builidng the wall was given to Abbas and his particular faction of Philistines. Apparently, it is more imporant to keep some anti-Israel/anti-USA terrorist godfather and his mafiosi in power than protect tax-paying US citizens.

...............In heavily Hispanic southern Texas, where cultural and economic ties to Mexico run deep, local officials, business groups and environmentalists have spoken out against the wall as unnecessary and unwanted...............

Well, good then. You have a few months notice to pick up all your bambinos, and your belongings, and get the hell out of our country.

My take would be more along the lines of that as a nation we must take the collective interest of the nation as a whole into account when it comes to security and the enforcement of our immigration and benefit entitlement laws than your selfish and narrow self-interest in this serious matter. And if you all can't understand that then you should make some other plans as the nation can not afford to listen to your selfish concerns on such matters of national security and economic welfare of our nation.

My family's safety and security far outweigh your narrow concerns on this national security issue. Perhaps you can move your operations a few hundred feet south of the border so as you won't miss out on the bounties of trading with the illegal aliens as you are more concerned with now. This nation does not owe you any consideration in this matter.

Not all walls are meant to keep people out.

Beware what you ask/demand. This may not be an answer to illegal infiltration. How quickly does the American opinion sway and we get a shift back to what we had through the 90s.

Many have thought that, "it can't happen to me/us/here, after all, we are (insert what worldly label one may hope in)".

Peter Fechter at the Berlin Wall (1962) Eighteen year-old East Berliner Peter Fechter bled to death after he was shot by East German border guards in an attempt to escape over the Berlin Wall (17. August 1962). Unknown photographer.

Oh yeah, remember Waco, also in Texas?

Remember the favors our leaders do for Communist regimes?

A Tejano is a Texan of Mexican descent whose ancestors were already settled in Texas when it became a Republic.

Basically, when Texas became a Republic, most Mexicans who were living there were loyal to the government of Mexico and left.

The Texas loyalists who stayed were known as Tejanos.

Bexar County, TX is something like 75% Tejano and many of them still keep in touch with and visit their Mexican relatives, just like many New Yorkers, Vermonters and Mainers keep in touch with their Quebecois relatives over the Canadian border.

No—just for opposing federal law

Which federal law is that?

and showing their true loyalty

Loyalty to one's family is something to be ashamed of?

Vamoose.

Perhaps you should vamoose to North Korea, where your bizarre attitudes are closely in step with the regime there.

My vote is for ‘vocal’. Unless you are (a) a landowner right on the Rio Grande, or (b) have an axe to grind on the issue, it should be no big deal. As for the argument about links with mexico, etc., real shoppers and tourists come over via *roads*, not sneaking across untracked property.

Folks are missing the big picture here.

We have argued against the amnesty bill that we need “ENFORCEMENT FIRST”.

DHS is telling us ‘operation control’ wont happen until 2013.

Thus, simple conclusion to Washington is: Dont even THINK about amnesty until 2013.

If we drill that into their heads, maybe it would encourage them to speed up this process.

Anyone have the fax/phone number to Chertoff’s office? If he thinks the pro-amnesty will be a pain, why do we pro-enforcement people make a BIGGER stink about just DO IT already with the fence...
