I don't really count the guys at the quick lubes as mechanics. It's just a quick and easy way to get a routine fluid change done that I could easily do myself, but don't feel like hassling with the disposal issues. Then there's the weather issues (like winter), at least for my truck, as it won't fit in the garage.

Other minor repairs I do myself.

One of the biggest reasons NOT to go to these "quicky lubes"

Ever watch someone from Jiffy? They drain the oil, and within seconds screw the drain plug back in, leaving almost another 1/4 of a quart of dirty oil still in the engine, that would have otherwise slowly drained out if they'd left the drain plug out, and allowed it to drain.

If you like your engine, leave the drain plug off for at least 20 minutes and let it drain out.
