Bush defends his immigration proposals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - President Bush sharply challenged critics of his stalled immigration-overhaul efforts on Thursday, suggesting that failure to pass a guest-worker program could trigger a labor shortage in the United States.

At a town-hall style meeting, Bush also rebuffed a question about whether he would consider pardoning two Border Patrol agents in prison for the cover-up of the shooting of a drug trafficker in Texas.

"No, I won't make you that promise," Bush told a woman who asked about a possible pardon. Many Republicans in Congress have said the men should not have been convicted and have criticized the federal U.S. attorney for even prosecuting the agents.

"I know it's an emotional issue but people need to look at the facts. These men were convicted by a jury of their peers after listening to the facts" as presented by U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, said Bush. Bush called Sutton a friend.

"These hate Bush threads are as bad as or worse than anything I’ve seen on DU."

Give it a rest, Whore-Hey.

What a surprise! The Bush haters know how to call names.

Bingo! With everything that's going in Washington, I think its time for a second American Revolution. The government has just gotten out of control and its incompetent at assuring our safety.

its incompetent at assuring our safety.

It's worse than that, because that implies there is such an intent to do so. They have proven that is NOT their intent.

Voted for him twice. In '04 I stood out in the rain for four hours (in Ohio, therefore securing victory) to do so. I agree with his Iraq policy and know that the economy is strong. But he has abdicated his role as a protector of US borders. For some reason he loves illegals and I will not abide it.

I consider calling the Minutemen “vigilantes” as hateful.

I can see his reasoning considering they are not legitimate agents of the border patrol.

The idea that people have to see any opinion differing from their own as "hateful" is just plain sad.

Well then, I guess DU was just a little ahead of the curve! LOL.

Well, having said that, lets just say we caught on much later than them, but for entirely different reasons.

Their hatred of HIM was because of their hatred of America.

Our new found hatred of HIS POLICIES is because of our hatred of America being destroyed.

A small difference there ya' just MIGHT want to keep in mind! ;-)

I'm all for building a wall on the border...but I just don't get how people can become so personally hateful toward Bush on this issue.

Neither were the Patriots of Lexington and Concord subjects of King George III.

American citizens have EVERY right to form militias. This is guaranteed under the the Bill of Rights. That Bush called the Minutemen "vigilantes" is HATEFUL!

The idea that people have to see any opinion differing from their own as "hateful" is just plain sad.

Tell that to Bush, then stick it in your pipe and smoke it!

“NASHVILLE, Tenn. - President Bush sharply challenged critics of his stalled immigration-overhaul efforts on Thursday, suggesting that failure to pass a guest-worker program could trigger a labor shortage in the United States. “

We already have a guest worker program. There are 12 million illegals in it. Now get them all registered, give them a year to finish up and if they want any shot at becoming a citizen, they take their entire family, go home then reapply for citizenship.

No magic here. Of course, build the fence first.

Because we're all paying for his views. In Emergency Rooms and classrooms and auto accidents with Mexicans who are uninsured and who escape penalties levied against the rest of us because we have licenses.

OK, I have a different opinion from that of the idol worshippers who see halos of light behind Bush's head. Do you consider me hateful?
