Whoa. Slow roller that lasted about 10 seconds. Biggest one I've felt in the last four years which would make it about a 4.0 I'd say depending on distance to the epicenter.
Waiting for USGS to update for more info.

Went through a 5.7 once, that was big enough for me! Glad we aren't on the left coast any longer.

Trust me, living out in Cali for as long as I have you get a feel for them. I just prefer that the Earth let’s off it’s pressure in a series of little ones rather than one BIG one!

I get in this argument all the time with friends from the Gulf Coast/Florida region: I’d prefer my disasters to happen when I don’t expect them. In hurricane country, people are constantly boarding up/evacuating only to find out that the hurricane veered off in a different direction and all was for naught.
At least I don’t have to board anything up in preperation for an earthquake. Just have to have a weeks worth of food/water on hand just in case.

Only because I was already awake and getting my morning headlines (as usual) from FR!
Would have posted faster, but the coffee has yet to kick in...

The big ones are SO big there are never enough little ones to make a difference.
The 6.7-7.0 quake the Hayward fault will eventually have will be over 10,000 times more powerful than this one.

Looks like Thomas Lifson was awake too:
American Thinker.
He is much closer to the epicenter than I am (I'm in Daly City, across the Bay).

American Thinker hit the nail on the head -
“I assume everyone in my neighborhood was awakened. Car alarms went off, and if the shaking didn’t f do it (kind of inconceivable to me), the noise would have”
The noise is mind-boggling. I went thru the 6.2 ? quake in 1971, at the epicenter, and the noise from below blew me away!
1. House falling over
2. dishes falling out of cupboards breaking
3. Pipes in the streets exploding
4. Earth moving
5. Yada yada - and there’s lots of yada!
