07-20) 04:00 PDT Santa Barbara -- UC Berkeley has hired astrophysics professor Gibor Basri as the campus' new vice chancellor for equity and inclusion.
On Thursday, UC's Board of Regents approved the appointment of Basri, 56, to increase diversity among faculty, staff and students.
The position, created by UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert Birgeneau, carries a $200,000 salary and is one of the first executive positions of its type in the nation.
With a $4.5 million budget, Basri is charged with developing a more diverse faculty and staff and a more open social climate throughout the campus.
He has been on the UC Berkeley faculty for more than 25 years, and has an extensive background working on diversity and outreach. He will begin as vice chancellor on Aug. 13.
Basri currently serves as chair of the Faculty Workgroup of the UC Regents' Study Group on University Diversity. That committee looks at the status of diversity efforts post-Proposition 209, the 1996 initiative that prohibited race and sex preferences in government education, employment and contracting.

Of course, this does NOT include diversity of thought, diversity of beliefs or diversity of values. Traditional Americans, conservatives, libertarians, Christians, Jews and patriotic Americans will continue to be ridiculed, attacked and shunned by the multicult worshipping university academia. This is diversity in today's universities.
The nation’s universities went over to the dark side about 25 years ago.
Yeah, the UC system has WAY too many Nobel Prize winners on its faculty.
Gotta give those non-Nobel-Prize winners a chance!
Brown dwarf?
$200K salary of a $4.5M budget? Not bad for an astrophysics professor.
And the Left complains about the upwardly spiraling costs of obtaining a college education.
And people wonder why tuition at brick and mortar schools keeps getting more and more expensive.
Online education is the wave of the future and will kill this BS.
From his resume: Member and Board of Directors of the “I Have a Dream, Oakland” Foundation.
From Dr. King’s speech: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
I wonder what Dr. King would think of “diversity”?
Don’t they mean “Astrology” Professor?
lol
Yes...they should refer to him as an “Astrology” Professor.
I remember some 15 years ago taking a college astrology course and the professor quipped:
What is the diference between an astronomer and an astrologer?
Answer: An astronomer studied and passed mathematics and physics. An astronomer flunked mathematics and physics.
I expect he will actively recruit more Blacks and Latinos and lower the admission standards to get them in....once in, most of these “special admission” students will get killed in the class room by the Whites and Asians....they will feel so out of place academically they will want to drop out....then Basri and his colleagues will design courses like Latino “studies” to keep them in and graduate them......that way his diversity numbers look better.....but when the poor kid can’t get a job with a worthless degree he’s gonna feel even worse about himself....
It seems that UC is a bit behind the curve.
No studies support the “value” of diversity, and a recent study showed it’s actual detrimental effects on a community.
This means Republicans and conservatives alike will be welcomed, included, and treated equitably, right? Right...?
If you are either of these, this should provide legal grounds for complaint if you ever are discriminated, shunned, or treated inequitably. I would love to see that action, and see them squirm their hypocritical asses in their seats during the hearings.
If only I could afford to produce movies - I'd make this one.
It’s perversity, not diversity that the radical pervert leftists clamor for.
Of course White heterosexual Christians will not be admitted, not get jobs, have to get higher marks to pass and be subject to harassment and false accusations.
Am I the only one to think it’s a little odd to hire an astrophysics professor to run a diversity department?
He reminds of the 3-card monte people on Fifth Avenue in New York City.
For Berkeley, diversity would be hiring Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage and Daniel Pipes.
