Not a WIll fan, but he puts McCain in his place for his ridiculous McCain-Feingold bill. His personal blindness on this issue convinced me that it was ENTIRELY about his person petulance about how free speech hurt his political ambitions, and nothing more.

I disagree with many FReepers about McCain in that I think he's a decent person who served this country. But I wouldn't want him as my President. (Sec Def?)

Just a thought, since you post such excellent threads on archaeological pursuits and such:

It's quite possible that in a few thousand years, archaeologists will stumble across McCain's political career. He buried it long ago with CFR and the Keating scandal. Everything afterwards was a sympathy vote for his years of service to this nation in captivity. His tirades and other antics have pretty much turned off conservatives for good, though.

I have an acquaintance who served under John McCain in the Navy. He was ferociously loyal to John McCain. Still, and this is some 30 years later, he has obvious issues with some of the recent press on McCain in the past few years. Probably would have supported McCain if he hadn't self destructed in 2k. However I don't think he was quite on board this time around.

I don't think that would stop the man from taking a bullet for John McCain if the situation ever rose.

I only learned this about the guy after about 5 years. Always knew he was a naval aviator, just didn't know about the McCain part.

Then, he simply applied Bismarck's wisdom — you can do anything with children if you play with them — in his relations with journalists. He sat on his bus, being what journalists think they are — irreverent — regarding people, policies and institutions they do not revere.

Will is really not a very good writer any more. The above sample is practically gibberish. Will is still capable of tossing out impressive sounding words. Unfortunately, he is rarely able to marshal them into elegant, or even intelligible paragraphs.
