The Chinese Embassy in Washington has urged the US to treat China's food and drug exports in a scientific and fair manner, saying exaggeration and complication of the issue is not conducive to the healthy development of bilateral trade.
The embassy issued a statement on Thursday after a series of disputes over the quality of products between the two.
The embassy said it hoped the US would not exaggerate or play up individual food safety cases and create a "China food and drug threat", giving the American public the wrong impression.
"Blowing up, complicating or politicizing the issue is irresponsible," it said.
It added that it is even more unacceptable for some to launch groundless attacks against China using the food and drug safety issue as an excuse.
It said problematic US imports from China such as toxic ingredients mixed into pet food were isolated cases and more than 99 percent of Chinese food that is exported to more than 200 countries and regions met the safety standard.
The statement said China should not be singled out for particular concern over food safety, a common challenge facing every country including the United States.
Noting recent US cases of contaminated spinach, peanut butter and poultry, the statement said China is not on the top of the list of countries whose food exports were refused in the past year.
It said the Chinese government has taken this matter very seriously, acted responsibly and immediately adopted forceful measures.
I’m sick of Chinese imports!
Would a boycott of Chinese health products be fair and responsible?
I think so.
It must pain them to beg. Maybe they need to straighten up their own mess? You know...take ownership of the problem.
Of course, just require them to meet the same standards as US produced goods. What could be more fair than that?
Since the Chinese have shown they have very poor quality control and poor design practices in many cases, that will mean inspecting every imported item for safety and quality. At the expense of the importer of course.
I avoid buying ANYTHING that says Made in China, or any Arab nation or nation where the ROP reigns. I do not find it all that limiting. I have a continual boycott of those nations who are interested in removing my freedoms (or my head) because of where I live, my ethnic origins or just for shits and grins. They don't need my money. I can get along without them very nicely.
Now if this nation had a hundredth of the balls individual consumers have shown, we all will do alright.
That will probably happen at the same time we start requiring Mexican trucks and drivers to meet the same standards as our own truck and drivers. In case anyone didn't know it, Mexican truck drivers are not [as it currently stands] going to be required to meet the same drug testing standards that American truckers are subjected to.
This nanny state that liberals are so enamored with running our lives seems to place foreigner's and their government's interests well ahead of US citizens.
I suggest when you go to the local Dollar Store, you read the label of every product for country of origin. I noticed the starline mints there come from Mexico. That's the country where lead is apparently considered a flavor enhancer.
I don't think much is going to change...
So it’s going to be Minnesota soy sauce and Arkansas rice for my stir fries from here on out.
Now that is exactly how we need to treat the Chinese for exporting these harmful products to us -- cease and desist importing all products designed to be used either as food, health or cosmetic products immediately, remove them from retail shelves, destroy all and never again trust the Chinese to treat us fairly -- they have no intention of doing so now or in the future.
It would be smart for you Duncan Hunter fans to get the word to Dunk to call for such a thing the next time he has some remarks to make at a debate. It might get him better headlines than Mike Huckabee.
Fairly? How about we instruct the US Navy to sink any freighter that sails from any Chinese port and enters US waters.
So I resorted to buying left over bluetooth print adapters made about seven years ago by 3COM for Europe no less. I plugged them in and my bluetooth wizard had them working in seconds.
I recommend buying Chinese by necessity and retuning the package opened but in good condition as soon as it is apparant the product sucks. Maybe the stores will start offering a better selection. Don't waste your time on the Chinese crap. If it doesn't work right away, get another brand.
Do you live off the land?
Just make sure you wash yer hands.
Sure, test it scientifically for poison and reject all of it that'll poison us. That's fair.
What Minnesota soy sauce?!?! Is that for real???
No. I just read the labels. You would be surprised what you can buy locally without paying for your ENEMIES to eventually kill you.
Eff’em. I wont play.
I know, we’ll start treating their imports *fairly* when they start treating their employees and citizens fairly.
