America, Meet Your Dumbest Congressman (Joseph Farah: Its George "RINO" Voinovich Alert)

Meet the dumbest man in Congress

Who could it be?

Ted Kennedy?

Joe Biden?

Jack Murtha?

I admit it. There's quite a bit of competition for the title – the dumbest man in Congress.

Could it be Maxine Waters, Barbara Lee or Patty Murray?

No, I'm not limiting the choices to men of the male persuasion. We're talking about men here in the sense of mankind. These chicks are in contention – no question about it. Each has made her own bids for the honor.

What about Jim Moran?

Charlie Rangel?

Robert Byrd?

It's a tough choice, isn't it? There are lots of qualified candidates.

Could it be Mark Udall?

Or Tom Udall?

Or Anyone Named Udall?

These are all good nominees, without a doubt. But I think there is a clear choice for the title. The only thing that has kept him from earning the title before is his own obscurity. But he has managed to overcome that liability in recent weeks.

(Column continues below)

My choice has been in the news recently – at least twice.

Do you want to know who I think is the dumbest man in Congress?

I tell you it is Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio.

George Voinovich

Personally, I came to this conclusion while listening to the man babble and sputter during what should have been a routine interview with radio talker Sean Hannity – a friendly to most Republicans.

But Voinovich, being the dumbest man in Congress, self-destructed. He imploded. He self-immolated. He nuked himself.

You can hear the whole exchange for yourself if you have never had the pleasure. It will be worth your time – especially if you are from Ohio.

For starters, Voinovich demonstrated he had no clue what the Fairness Doctrine was. This was pretty strange given some of his colleagues were clamoring to reinstate the rule that required broadcasters to provide all sides of important policy issues.

"Fairness Doctrine – I'm all for it, whatever it is," he said. "I think everyone should be open to show the other side. That's what you do every night on Fox. That's great!"

When Hannity reminded Voinovich that the Fairness Doctrine would establish government regulatory bureaucracies to enforce this balance, Voinovich quickly retreated. He also misinterpreted the results of a vote in the Senate hours earlier.

Let's just say he didn't handle himself real well.

Then earlier this month Voinovich was back in the news for a simply astonishing quote attributed to him.

When Sen. John McCain returned from a trip to Iraq, he told some of his colleagues the most dangerous threat for U.S. troops was al-Qaida.

How did Voinovich respond?

"Al-Qaida wouldn't be in Iraq if American forces weren't there!" he retorted.

Of course, he's right. If American forces weren't in Iraq, al-Qaida would be right here!

A little-known U.S. senator from a major U.S. state has emerged from obscurity to become the holder of a real distinction – the dumbest man in the U.S. Congress.

What about Barbara Boxer? Didn’t she refer to the terrorist bombing of trains in Spain as “that train accident”?

I think, like Dennis Kucinich, “Tears” Voinovich is a former Cleveland mayor.

Crying over John Bolton, fearing for his children. What a doofus.

"...Congresswoman Jackson-Lee, when briefed about the Mars rovers, asked if one of them would approach the flag that the Apollo astronauts planted."

ROFLMAO!!! She really is as dumb as a rock..... but unfortunately there are plenty of pols of both parties who qualify for that desciption. Boinkovich is obvious working with only a dim bulb inside his head, but the same can be said for Patsy Murray, John Conyers, Harry Reid, Jon Cary, and at least 1/2 of the 'RATs overall. p.s. Maybe she should have asked if the Mars rovers could jet off for a quick visit to Jupiter to keep looking for the flag planted by the Apollo astronauts......

The competition is admittedly fierce, but I’m still holding out for Sheila Martian Lee myself.

I heard the Hannity interview (twice). Hannity did one of his best interviews, IMO, he was level headed, asked good questions, was respectful, and didn’t let up or give the clown Voinovich a pass “in any way, shape, manner, or form”. As the WND article states, Voinovich didn’t know the subject matter. Voinovich should get the award for “dumbest Congressman” just because he is too stupid to hire a staff capable of briefing him on what he is likely to face when he appears with someone like Hannity. The sad thing about this is that if the clown is replaced, and he should be, Ohioans are likely to replace him with a democrap.

Good point about him not being prepared.

But whoever came up with the term “Fairness Doctrine” is a genius. Who on the surface could disagree with the concept of fairness - everyone wants to be “fair.

Unfortunately, as well all know, the “fairness doctrine” as described by Congress is anything BUT fair. And that is how the dems/libs operate, by deception, not by “truth in advertising”. And of course they apply this “doctrine” only to the one venue that they don’t dominate, ignoring the many venues (network and cable TV, the print media) where their side rules.

I would be willing to bet that Voinovich knew exactly what the so called Fairness Doctrine is, and the most honest comment he made in the interview was when he stated that he was for it. All the rest of the comment was just blather from a blithering idiot.

You're right, the term "Fairness Doctrine" ranks with using the word investment in place of the word taxes. Redeployment in place of cut, run, surrender. Karl Levin in place of a real senator.

“How do these people get elected?”

Unfortunately, at voting time, when the only option you have is a Republican vs. a Democrat, some of us are literally harassed into choosing the Republican, no matter who it is. Those who didn’t, are still being blamed for the loss of House and Senate in ‘06. I regret having voted for him...we need a much better Republican choice here in Ohio. I’ve suggested his defeat next go round by holding a rally in front of his house to remind voters that he was all FOR the CIR bill, until he realized at the last minute that it was a looser. He was also one of many pols in Ohio who took huge illegal campaign contributions from my former boss at P.I.E.

Apologies to the dozen and a half conservatives that haven't moved away from Cleveland yet, but you are absolutely right.

He actually ran against Kucinich, who got Cleveland into financial default, and beat him. He then proceeded to get the city out of default.

After the primary, his 8-year-old daughter was killed on her way to school by a truck that ran a red light.

I don't think he is stupid as much as he is senile.

You my friend are correct. That is what happened when DeWine lurched to the left. Ohioans replaced him with the libidiot Sherrod Brown.

Ohio would be a much better state if we could get rid of the libs in the Cleveland area.

NOBODY is as stupid as Barbara Boxer.

Barbara Boxer must, simply MUST remain in the Senate for California. Without her, Feinstein's lack of mental acuity could be exposed. This, in turn, could cause her husband's business empire ... based on somehow managing to buy up vast tracts and flipping them to "Nature Conservancies" which buy them from him at a huge mark-up ... O say 300%. Thank heavens it's for the good of the people!

Can anyone explain how America's largest state came to be represented in the Senate by these two yentas from Hell? Frankly, I wouldn't be too quick to condemn Maxine "Boogaloo" Water's explanation. There's gotta be something in the water, Dude.

California has been the laboratory for Democrat election-rigging schemes over the last decade. In 2008, they go national.

You could do remakes of “Dumb and Dumber” into the next century with members of Congress.

I agree, Doug. The title rightfully belongs to Owens.

Though, when I worked for the telephone company in the early 70s, in the Midtown office in D. C., my buds in the Downtown office, which covered Capitol Hill, told me that title went to Senator Byrd.

He might be something of a classical scholar, but on day to day mundane matters, he’s dumb as a brick, they told me.
