July 23, 2007 -- WHAT did Fred Thompson's son, Daniel, do to earn the more than $170,000 that his firm, Daniel Thompson Associates, was paid from his father's federal political action committee, the Fred D. Thompson PAC?
The records suggest he did next to nothing.
The elder Thompson, an undeclared presidential candidate, left the Senate at the start of 2003. He started The Fred D. Thompson PAC with $378,601 transferred from his senatorial campaign committee.
It's perfectly legal for a former public official to roll leftover campaign funds over to a PAC and use that money to support candidates. Yet very little of these funds actually went to candidates - the bulk of the money was paid to Daniel Thompson.
Daniel Thompson did not reply to efforts to contact him.
From the month the PAC started (April 2003), Daniel Thompson Associates began drawing a monthly retainer of $4,000 for "management consultant services."
In its first election cycle, the PAC made a total of only $18,000 in contributions to federal candidates and about $8,000 in contributions to Republican committees and non-federal candidates. So, the fund spent about 7 percent of its assets on candidates and elections in its first two years - and about 25 percent on Thompson's son.

Pissant knows darn well that Hunter has a PAC which will go to support his son’s congressional race.
In fact, why else would he be campaigning for his son’s local San Diego race at a presidential candidate’s dinner in New Hampshire?
I’m not convinced this wasn’t the plan all along.
Use the campaign pulpit to advance conservatism (and he’s doing a great job),
then when he drops out, his donation dollars can go to Duncan Duane.
Hunter’s wife spoke at that dinner and didn’t say one word about her husband’s presidential bid.
She spoke ONLY of Duncan Duane’s campaign.

Isn’t that a fascinating observation you’ve made? It would explain Hunter’s rather lame campaign to date. Numerous FReepers have said beginning weeks back that it appears that Hunter doesn’t seem to be interested in winning—and now we have an excellent potential explanation for that. Excellent work on your part.
BTW, I think that this should be shared with other FReepers.
I agree, starting with SDchick12, who works in Hunter's campaign office and just signed onto FR a few days ago to freepmail me that Hunter's campaign funds are NOT transferrable to his son's campaign.
SDchick12, I hope you're able to review this thread, and post #201, to realize my questions were justified.
Ping to posts 201, 202, 203. Thought you might be interested.
I don’t believe, however, that Duncan’s run for President is, in any way, a back door attempt to help his son.
Hunter is the victim of the pop culture mentality of our country. I doubt that Abraham Lincoln or Teddy Roosevelt could be elected in this day and age.
Good lawyers are paid on retainer for doing nothing all the time.. it is a normal business service. I have a lawyer on retainer, albeit, I don't even pay a twentieth of what Daniel is paid (but I don't need a lawyer for the purposes he is in business for.) I've used my lawyer twice, both to draft and review contracts.
Another much ado about nothing story to trash Fred.
Considering his consulting consisted of writing checks to the guys his dad told him to write checks to, that’s a pretty good gig.
This is no trash of Hunter. As has been said, Hunter is putting out the conservative message. His conservative son in office is all to the good.
Either way, I’m not going to get into the business of trashing any of the real conservatives, that’s pissant’s job.
I was yankin yer chain.
I’ll be looking for his response. Thanks!
No response ping/bump.
Hmmm...
The non~response would indicate we might be right methinks ~
Campaign funds for one, meant for another, kinda stinks.
I hope the ones contributing to Duncan Hunter know
just where the funds, when he drops out, are prob’ly going to go.
