Illegal aliens poised for new haven in Connecticut

REUTERS NEWS AGENCY - As many U.S. cities and states arrest illegal aliens in raids and toughen laws against them, a Connecticut city is offering to validate them under a new, first-in-the-nation ID-card program.
Starting tomorrow, New Haven will offer illegal aliens municipal identification cards that allow access to city services such as libraries and a chance to open bank accounts.
Supporters say the cards will improve public safety and give illegal aliens protections now afforded legal residents. Critics contend that it will unleash a flood of illegal immigration, straining services and wasting taxpayer money.
New Haven officials overwhelmingly approved the program last month in a 25 to 1 vote.
Backers and detractors alike say the program appears to fill a vacuum after Congress failed to act on immigration reform, leaving many towns and cities struggling with how to deal with a growing undocumented population.
Kica Matos, a leader of local Hispanic advocacy group Junta for Progressive Action, said undocumented workers are often targeted by thieves and robbed because they carry cash, a result of not being able to open a bank account.
"Part of the reason they can't open bank accounts is because they don't have forms of identification that were valid," she said.
She said two banks have agreed to accept the new city card, which will be offered to all New Haven residents, as legitimate identification sufficient for opening an account.
Miss Matos estimates 3,000 to 5,000 illegal aliens live in the city of 124,000 people, many from Mexico, Ecuador and Guatemala.

Geez, I dunno if I'd sign up for that card if I was you, fellas. Because the first President who decides to enforce immigration laws (maybe in two years) will discover that all of a sudden, it's pretty darned easy to find and deport 12 million illegals. The Feds will be able to find the illegals' addresses and track all of their transactions, not to mention seize their assets, with the aid of those itty-bitty cards.
Wouldn't even have to squeeze New Haven to part with the info (although the Feds could: just threaten the welfare and highway money). The banks will part with it in a New Haven minute.
Wow, that's just, like ... too damned bad.
Maybe they should go back to Mexico and open an account.

New Haven isn’t as good as the article states. I work at a prominent New Haven entity (With some ivy on the walls) and I can hear the almost daily protests in the Barrio down the road .... The attacks and muggings, the latest (and more frequent) robberies and young folks being roughed up.
Look into the police department, our corrupt mayor and put it all together. This place is going to hell.

Connecticut is the richest state in the country. Of course they’re going to have illegals. Somebody’s gotta shovel those massive driveways.

New Haven is already a third world slum. The majority of the population is either Black and Puerto Ricans (mostly unemployed and on government assistance). I dare anyone to drive through New Haven after dark and still have all of their vehicle intact and still alive. It’s a total SH*THOLE.

Sure, there is a few “council” and “committee” entries, but the more common definitions involve revolution, coups, and seizures of power.
Now which of those definitions might the illegals and their supporters consider more accurate?
The issuance of these cards is distinctly reminiscent of then MA Gov. Michael Dukakis’ attempt to give illegals fake Social Security numbers so they could go on welfare when they arrived in Massachusetts. When caught, it was pooh-poohed as an “oversight” (as was the Boston Harbor cleanup that he forgot to get federal funding for during his idiotic presidential campaign) because it was out and out illegal.
Now New Haven and its democrat Mayor are trying to end run the system and make illegals quasilegal.

Sadly, that it true of all the big cities in the liberal mecca of Connecticut. Hartford actually makes Springfield MA look good. All the real dumps are in liberal states.

Absolutely outrageous! The city of New Haven surrendered to the illegal aliens represented by bleeding heart latino activists like that Matos woman (Is she a citizen?). A city of 125,000 throws up its arms and decides to accommodate 3 too 5,000 illegal aliens. Contrary to what the Matos woman contends, those people ARE ILLEGAL ALIENS, NOT UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS. The way to deal with illegal aliens is to DEPORT THEM. I support LEGAL IMMIGRATION, but I totally oppose giving more and more to these lawbreakers. They, along with Matos and their allies in LaRaza and Maldef should be stopped for the sake of the future of our REPUBLIC! Political correctness is going to be our downfall. The late President Dwight D. Eisenhower, a leader who dealt with illegal aliens in the way they should be dealt with is probably turning over in his grave.
