University Expected to Fire Controversial Professor Today By Susan Jones CNSNews.com Senior Editor July 24, 2007
(CNSNews.com) - Ward Churchill's own lawyer expects the tenured University of Colorado professor to be fired on Tuesday. "Ward Churchill will be fired, and Wednesday, I'll be filing a lawsuit" over free-speech rights," the Denver Post quoted attorney David Lane as saying.
The university's governing board plans to hold a closed session on the Boulder campus today, and a decision on Churchill is expected in the middle of the afternoon.
According to the Denver Post, Churchill's supporters are planning to show their support at an afternoon rally. Churchill and his attorney will address the crowd when the decision comes down, press reports said.
A faculty panel recommended that Churchill be punished, but not fired. However, in a May 25 letter to the Board of Regents, CU President Hank Brown recommended that Churchill be dismissed for "conduct which falls below the minimum standards of professional integrity."
Churchill drew attention to himself by writing an essay questioning the innocence of those who died in the World Trade Center on 9/11. He described the victims as "technocrats" and "little Eichmanns" (Nazis).
Amid the uproar over the insult, the university began investigating Churchill's academic work. A panel eventually concluded that he had plagiarized, fabricated and falsified some of his research and writings.

Today: Today!
Tomorrow: Maybe tomorrow.
Next week: Then again, it might be in a week or two.
Next month: Fire him? Why are we doing that? He’s tenured.
I heard the Falcons may be looking for a QB....
Churchill was found guilty of deliberate false assertions, misrepresentation of sources, and plagiarism.
Among other things, Churchill was found guilty of passing off others’ work as his own (plagiarism), but also of passing off his own work as others’.
This “permits the author to create the false appearance that his claims are supported by other scholars when, in fact, he is the only source for such claims”...

Cynical as I am about the courts, I think they could be surprisingly unsympathetic to the lawsuit. Churchill isn’t being fired for exercising his right to free speech. He is being fired for his plagiarism and other types of academic misconduct. Well within the rights of the university.
But the school was duly accredited. They could not take action against him for that.
I agree...
What happens to the “average Joe” when it is discovered that the information contained in his resume is false? He is fired.
What about the student who submits the work of someone else as if it were his own? He fails the class and could possibly be expelled.
Why is this guy any different?
‘zackly. His degrees were not fake. The school was “iffy,” and was folded into U of Illinois, I think.
It's the American Way. Rule of law overthrown by rule by lawyers.
“adios........”
He’ll almost certainly get hired somewhere else, where they appreciate his talents.
Antioch would have recruited him heavily. Too bad for Ward that they are closed. Maybe SF State or Columbia. He would be a great fit for Columbia School of Journalism’s Ethics Dept.
Maybe they could find a place for him at Parsons College...
“Now theres swift justice.”
Oh......This ain’t even close to being over.
He could be the entire faculty at the “new” Antioch College!!
[Antioch is the leftist day care center known as a college that is shutting down due to drastically declining enrollments and lack of funds, etc. They represent the most pitiful and contemptible aspects of the American left, much like Ward Churchill. Maybe they could use a “faculty of one” ala Ward Churchill for future indoctrination sessions.]
The "etc." here is that all the other schools are now teaching what you used to find only at Antioch. No more need for it.
Free speech is one thing; fraud is another...and this “man” is nothing but a fraud!
LOL. Me too.
Haven’t heard a word yet on the news.
News? I’m not putting on my CU bumper sticker until that bum is fired.
You didn't hear about it because it only applies to "progressives".
