Murtha pushes new troop withdrawal plan

By ANNE FLAHERTY, Associated Press Writer 3 minutes ago

A leading Democratic House Iraq war critic said Wednesday he'll soon push legislation that would order U.S. troop withdrawals to begin in two months and predicted Republicans will swing behind it this time.

A vote on Rep. John Murtha's proposal likely will come in September, when Iraq commander Gen. David Petraeus delivers a long-anticipated assessment on the war and members of Congress weigh some $600 billion in defense spending requested by President Bush.

Under his plan, Murtha, a close ally of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said that he envisions troop withdrawals to start in November and take about a year to complete.

The House has passed similar proposals in the past, including one that Bush vetoed. But Murtha said he predicts this vote will be different because of mounting voter frustration with the war and a lack of progress in Iraq.

"This is big time," Murtha, D-Pa., told reporters of the upcoming war debate in September. "When you get to September, this is history. This is when we're going to have a real confrontation with the president trying to work things out."

Bush has not given any indication he is open to a dramatic shift or a major redeployment of troops after September. He instead has talked at length about the need to remain engaged in Iraq to fight al-Qaida and has repeatedly appealed to lawmakers for more patience.

Has he withdrawn his guilty until proven innocent position on the Haditha Marines?

It ticks me off that the MSM gave Murthas a pass on his idiotic "Okinawa Plan."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that it remains the only Democrat plan out there.

""This is big time," Murtha, D-Pa., told reporters of the upcoming war debate in September. "When you get to September, this is history. This is when we're going to have a real confrontation with the president trying to work things out. SURRENDER."

To re-insert from Okinawa by air, you’d have to travel almost 6,000 miles, across China and Iran, to get to Baghdad. Tony Cordesman and Ralph Peters and the other “military experts” on the News networks can’t figure out why this might not be good. Or at least have promised to keep their mouths shut.

Gee, I wonder if the Post will cover Pelosi + Congress’ low ratings as they did Bush’s....

I won’t hold my breath (but I would like to see some Reid if you have it).

I think conservative talk radio and the right-leaning websites will be gone before the '08 election. Some of the left-leaning sites may have to be sacrificed to get rid of places where people can get the "other side" of the news, but I don't think they'll put up much of a fuss since they will view it as to their advantage since they don't like free speech anyway.

Like you, I doubt that it's necessary, but the Democrats won't take any chances since they are going for the whole ball of wax.

It is dwarfed by spending for social services that encourage people to sit around on their ass.

Which spending does the most good?

Good Work, you must have been in/worked for the military at one time since you know the bullet format.

Rasmussen has Reid at 27% today. The Dems in the Senate should have made Kerry or Kennedy the majority leader, Rasmussen has them at 42% and 43% respectively, as of today. LOL!

Bush would be wise to devote energy to laying out the successes in a prime time speech with other administration officials speaking up.

Who gives a Rat’s A** about what Marthe or Jack Say. They could not organize the beer concession at a Sunday School Picnic. They are just both willing to do or say anything to get press time. What the hell does Martha know about War. all she has ever done is live in the peace, preserved for her by fighting troops in bygone days.

In case you missed the post the other night from Darryl Sharrat, father of one of the Marines, who recently had a conversation with Murtha and disclosed its contents here.

So dingbat Reid calls Bush the worst president in history and constantly harps on his approval ratings when he’s worse??!?!?!?

These people have no shame in how they flaunt just how dumb they think the media/public are

Do a search on a search engine using Iraq, Iraq war, bush plan, surge, etc. even democrat corruption. Notice that the results are mostly left leaning? You have to know where to go to get non-left biased stuff.

I've been smelling a concerted Soros funded google bombing effort for some time. Try the same search for Democratic corruption. Results are all about Democrats ripping the Republicans for the "culture of corruption".
