Two-Time Teenage Mothers to be Assigned “Contraception Counsellors” by British Government

By Hilary White

LONDON, July 25, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The British government, in reaction to recent statistics that show the UK with the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in Europe, will assign “contraception counsellors” to teenage mothers.

The move comes in response to statistics from the Department for Children, Schools and Families, showing that in 2005, one fifth of the teenagers who became pregnant were already mothers. The counsellors will on various family issues, including breastfeeding, nutrition and how to get contraceptives.

The Telegraph quoted Norman Wells, who said that the government’s dedication to the doctrines of the sexual revolution, including sex-ed in schools is what has created the problem. “So long as the Government encourages teenage sexual activity by making contraception freely and confidentially available in school clinics and other settings, teenage pregnancy rates will remain high and sexually transmitted infection rates will continue to soar.”

With governments and schools continuing to encourage young people to have sexual relations outside marriage, not only teenage pregnancy rates, but rates of sexually transmitted diseases have soared in Britain.

The latest figures from the Health Protection Agency show steady rises in the rates of genital herpes and chlamydia with especially high rates among young people and gay men.

Professor Pat Troop, chief executive of the Health Protection Agency told the BBC that while the rates of some STD’s has slowed, “The picture for young people remains particularly worrying.”

Mike Judge of the Christian Institute told the Telegraph, “What I would like to see the government doing is giving a bit of moral guidance to our children and educating them about how to say no to underage sex.”

Whatever happened to teaching teens A-B-S-T-I-N-E-N-C-E? Imagine how much her Majesty Government could do to prevent teen pregnancies and eliminate an unnecessary redundancy - I mean "contraception counselors."

If you step back and take a look, and consider things like this, and the booming-nay-peaking abortion fad, you could almost infer that there is some vast propaganda conspiracy against reproduction itself.

What sex will the “contraception counselors” be?

If male, I see the likely fathers for their third children.

That's certainly part of the problem, but I think the fact that the government provides unwed mothers and their children with apartments and cash subsidies is a more significant contributor.

Yup. And recently, they've changed the rules that a single parent must get a job when the child reaches the age of seven. There's the incentive to have one every six years.

You’re right. But it’s only targeted at...err...certain people.

How about cutting off welfare payments to mothers with two illegitimate children? Why should taxpayers pay for the irresponsible behaviour of these mothers and the deadbeat fathers? Society commits suicide when it subsidizes this life style.

Contraception Counsellors? Will they be in the room when the teenagers are having sex, showing them how to put on a condom and when to pull out. Is this Obama’s idea?

What a great idea! Have you actually come up with a foolproof method of teaching that stops teenagers having sex? If you have you could be onto a real money-spinner there!

Sounds like a good idea on the face of it, but then you end up with starving homeless single parents whose children then end up in state care which costs even more.

Are state benefits paid to single mothers in the US?

I often wonder if the left has a blind spot when it comes to incentivizing behavior through subsidizing it -

or if they’re doing it on purpose.

I agree. However, I always pondered why people back in the day got married so young. The answer is simple. People got married at 16 and such so they could have sex without being immoral plain and simple. Your hormones are raging at that age. Impossible not to have the urge to have sex. However, these people should put on a damn condom.

I often wonder that, myself. Is it possible that people don’t understand what’s going on in these situations? Do they really not understand - for a second example - that higher minimum wages reduce employment opportunities?

Or do they really want to hurt people?

How about a return to the workhouses and debtor's prisons of Victorian England? We could certainly compete very effectively with cheap Chinese goods if we interred the poor in workhouses, fed them gruel, and had them turn out clothing, furniture and small appliances.

To ensure that none decided to leave and live on the streets, we could make begging a hanging offense like it was in colonial America.

Sounds like a powerful incentive for abstinence to me!

Sometimes, I’d like to sit the “liberal” acquaintences of mine down with a copy of “Basic Economics” [Sowell], and make them discuss it with me after they’ve read it, and THEN justify their positions on various issues.

That book is THE antidote to stupid “liberal” ideas.

It doesn’t say, but I’ll bet the large majority are from “Asian” teenagers.

Absolutely. Lock them in a room with the complete works of Thomas Sowell, and don’t let them out until they’ve assimilated everything!
