Yea! I love when one of our sworn enemies expend a huge fortune by buying SCRAP METAL at 1000X cost!!

Tomcat pilots will be able to shoot those out of the sky with Iranian pilots.

I remember we racked up ALL of the ruski mil junk in Gulf War 1 and 2.

Always saw the russian mil hardware as much better suited for attacking poorly armed civilians rather that top quality USA Military.

Iran probably buying from pooty on credit, AGAIN. Good for us 2 ways, russia gets ripped off and iran get shot to hell.

The only remaining active Tomcat pilots are Iranians.

I remember reading that the Soviets typically designed their aircraft for specific missions, for example the Mig-25 for very fast and could intercept supersonic bombers at high altitude. Of course, they were awful at dogfighting, except for running away.

Who do you think taught Abdolhosain Minousepehr, Mojtaba Zangeneh, Mohammad Farahawar and Kazem Heidarzadeh F-14 tactics?

The second aircraft pictured is an SU-30MKI/MKM,which are distinguished by their canards, not an MK.

The Soviets did & the results were there to be seen. The Russians churned out the SU-30 to be in the same class as the F-15E.Long range, heavy payload & multi-role.

This is precisely the reason why these reports seem bogus. The whole deal would be worth over 10 billion & would take years to implement. The factory most likely to deliver these aircraft,KNAAPO,is engaged in building them for China, while another factor,IRKUT,is building more advanced aircraft for India & Malaysia.

I was thinking the same thing. I mean, these are not Toyotas coming off the line. 250 planes will take some time. Or, perhaps this is an inventory clearance sale. Take all 250 and get a Mercedes Benz for free.

The Russians have been too poor to buy new SU-30s.They only operate the older SU-27s,which are being modernised. If they sold off those, they would lose over 60% of their air defense capability!!

the Su-30 series has yet to be tested in combat. However, the general thinking is it is much more capable platform than most of the recent Mig series of fighters

the Su-30MK is a formidable aircraft, a purchase like this is going to set some people off

Formidable to many countries, true. Not to the USA.

That's not boasting, just a simple fact.

This improved version of the SU-30 was one of the main reasons why the Air Force pushed for the F-22. With a well trained pilot it could be a tough adversary for an F-15. It is no match at all for an F-22.

Fortunately we have the best trained pilots in the world and lots of them. Iran and Syria have very few pilots that could hack it in the USAF or USN. If they get these aircraft before hostilities break out they will be little more than manned target drones.

The next round of air attacks against a hostile nation will be the debut for the F-22 and the pilots that will be up against it will be killed before they even know they are in danger.

I heard a report said that Iranian’s Flankers are base on my country’s Royal Malaysian Air Force MKM series. And unlike the India’s MKI series which armed with Isreal’s components, my coutnry’s MKM series are armed with advance South Africa, Russia and most of all, the French Thales avionic systems. Which means that all Muslim countries can now opt for MKM’s version of Flanker if they wish to buy.

There’s a joke in a blog somewhere saids that MKM is a Muslim nations’ version of Flanker. Inspiration of confidence? I hope not.

Even with decent training, Flanker can be your worse foe that you’ll face. Be warned Americans, never ever underestimate a well-trained (if they are) and determined foe, or they make you pay through your nose.
