It is not enough to decide you want own a gun for defense, you have to decide you want to KNOW HOW TO USE a gun for defense.

So true!!
While I applaud the sentiment of the locals wanting to protect themselves, I shudder to think of a bunch of suburbanites armed with little or no training. They are a danger to themselves. He focuses on how to shoot the bad guy and not yourself.

There are some EXCELLENT training CDs on the market these days...I just reviewed my latest purchase from Clint Smith, made at his Thunder Ranch, Oregon training facility. I would HIGHLY recommend it to everyone who is considering carrying or having a fire arm in the home.

I went through this horse and pony procedure just before y2k.

The law then was must issue within 60 days.

That didn’t matter. the local police were ABOVE the law and made me wait 5 days PAST the legal 2 month window. I was due to get the permit on Dec 29th and almost got a big mental review done on me just because I tried to hold to town of southington to the law as written. Didn’t get the permit until Jan. 4th.

I agree. There is no reason the police shouldn’t have gotten to and surrounded the house before her. Probably idiotic bank privacy issues came into play here. There is no way the mom could have pulled off an “everyday look” at the bank.

Just damn. I got mine in 2002 and it only took a couple of weeks as I noted before. Maybe it’s because I’m in one of the few relatively gun-friendly towns in CT, but it didn’t take too long at all. OR it could have been the fact that I stopped by the local police station every 2 days or so to see if my paperwork came in. Either way, it came back quickly. :)

“Maybe some of these liberals buying guns will reconsider their support for waiting periods (like what happened in CA during the ‘92 Rodney King riots). When the stuff hit the fan there, people (liberals) were incensed about not being able to immediately acquire self-defense firearms.

All the conservatives already had theirs. :^)”

I know what you mean :) A little preparation goes a long way.

Is that because there is a waiting period for shotguns or because he doesn't have enough in stock and has to order them?

Actually, there's no waiting period for long guns (rifles & shotguns). It's a 2-week waiting period for a pistol if you don't have a pistol permit. If you have a permit, the transaction doesn't take much longer than an hour. So things aren't as bad as some people would make it out to be. This article has more than a few holes in it that need to be filled.

But a man on teevee told me to get some door chimes, and he KNOWS what’s good for me, right? He’s on TEEVEE! Those people know everything. Plus, there’s no waiting period for chimes.

too bad the killers got in by cutting thru window screens after smashing the glass... dumb libs

To buy a handgun in Ct you need a state pistol permit.
to buy a rifle or shotgun in Ct with out having a pistol permit or a hunting license , there is a two week wait.

That is the law in Ct.

I stand corrected. In the research I had done a while ago (not exactly sure when), I didn’t remember there being a waiting period for long guns, only handguns. Is this a relatively new law or has it been that way forever? Anyway, thanks for the correction. :) BTW, you don’t happen to be from Hoffman’s do ya (judging by your screen name)?

It's a 2-week waiting period for a pistol if you don't have a pistol permit.

Here in Michigan, if you have a CPL, you can purchase a handgun on the spot then take it to your local police dept. for registration.

You can also purchase a rifle or shotgun on the spot without any permits after the instant background check is completed.

If you wish to purchase a handgun without a CPL, then you simply go to your local police dept. and pick up a purchase permit, take it to your local gun store and then buy the handgun you want (after the instant background check is performed). Following purchase you must then take it back to your police dept. for registration........There is no waiting period.

Last year I bought a pistol from Hoffman (a Kimber compact 45). It’s a great store - too bad it’s an hour’s drive from this part of the state (mid-Fairfield County), or I might have also gotten my XD-45 and Springfield 1911 TRP there too...

how do you hold the pistol-grip equipped shotgun when you shoot?

This will sound strange, but, assuming you're right handed, lock your left elbow, and hold the shotgun straight out in front of yourself at shoulder level (as though it had a stock). Hang on tight. Let the gun rotate (pivot) up as you push with your rear (right) hand, and the gun will rack itself. Push your left arm out and down until the bead's back on target. You can unload many rounds in few seconds. YMMV.

To all the people buying guns because you are “scared” don’t forget the kids, DO NOT HIDE THE GUNS, make sure you educate your kids, 99% of the gun accidents are from ignorance, I own numerous guns and have 2 kids 3 and 5 both girls. They are not allowed to have toy guns, even though my oldest daughter has harvested several deer and turkeys, I do not allow “toy” guns something all you new gun owners need to think about!!! Teach your kids that every gun is a loaded gun even though it is not, and teach them how to use it, you never do know when they might be the saving your life, or be the only ones home when the time comes to need it.. Like I say my oldest daughter is only 5 and I bet she can out shoot 50% of the gun owners out there. Not only that but she knows how to be safe with it. All I can say is educate, accidents happen due to carelessness and ignorance.. So please teach your kids, they are never to young to learn!!! And yes the shotgun is the best choice, nothing will scare a criminal more then somebody jacking a shell in the chamber of a 12 ga.
