Liberals Pressure FoxNews Advertisers
AP Television Writer ^ | 7/28/07 | DAVID BAUDER

NEW YORK(AP) Liberal activists are stepping up their campaign against Fox News Channel by pressuring advertisers not to patronize the network.

MoveOn.org, the Campaign for America's Future and liberal blogs like DailyKos.com are asking thousands of supporters to monitor who is advertising on the network. Once a database is gathered, an organized phone-calling campaign will begin, said Jim Gilliam, vice president of media strategy for Brave New Films, a company that has made anti-Fox videos.

The groups have successfully pressured Democratic presidential candidates not to appear at any debate sponsored by Fox, and are also trying to get Home Depot Inc. to stop advertising there.

At least 5,000 people nationwide have signed up to compile logs on who is running commercials on Fox, Gilliam said. The groups want to first concentrate on businesses running local ads, as opposed to national commercials.

"It's a lot more effective for Sam's Diner to get calls from 10 people in his town than going to the consumer complaint department of some pharmaceutical company," Gilliam said.

Some of the videos produced by Gilliam's company compile statements made by Fox anchors and guests that the activists consider misleading, such as those that question global warming.

Representatives for Fox News Channel, which is owned by News Corp., did not immediately return calls for comment.

Home Depot has not had an unusual number of calls, said spokesman Jerry Shields, and the home improvement chain will not change its advertising strategy.

"We're not in the business of censoring media," Shields said. "We need to reach our customer base through all mediums available."

I don't care what Home Depot does or says.

I go out of my way to avoid shopping in their stores.

They hire the surliest people who avoid customers and prefer to bitch about their jobs to each other.

Fox news has just as much crap as the other cable news channels. I wouldn't go out of my way to vouch for them.

Fox employees give (depending on if you include one wealthy former exec or not) something like 68%-81% of their political donations to Democrats.

I guess that's not enough for the Jesse Jackson shake 'em down party to consider one "balanced".

Eh. Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes' network is the biggest contributor to Hillary Clinton's campaign. Fox News Channel is hardly conservative. Yet liberals demonize it as though it where. Go figure.

That statistic isn’t surprising really. FoxNews is still liberal weighted even though they give a fairer shake to other points of view.

But we rarely watch FoxNews anymore. Brit’s show once in a blue moon...

I don't like Home Depot. I won't go back there.

However, I do not personally know any Liberals who do home repairs. It makes their wrists hurt, and is beneath them to soil their hands. They espouse Socialist ideas about exalting the Working Man, but have contempt for their plumbers, electricians, and mechanics (Who then gleefully rip them off). I once knew an advertising buyer, who, upon demographic analysis, cancelled a local sports team's broadcast Summer ad buy for a home improvement chain. "People who are watching the games are NOT going to buy lumber".

Likewise, neither are Cambridge or Berkely liberals.

By all means, cancel Fox advertising. It is doing nothing but wasting money, anyway.

Compared to the rest of the media, that is somewhere to the right of Ghengis Kahn. Liberal Hypocrisy in action. Their freedom of speech must be absolute, but anyone who disagrees with them must be punished, either by boycotts, the fairness doctrine, or good old IRS investigations.

God I hope Fred can reestablish the position of the party. Bush is a decent leader, but he took a dominant party, between Clinton’s sleaze, and the WOT, and has just about wrecked everything politically.

Liberals continue to stifle dissent. You are allowed free speech only until you disagree with their point of view... Then at best you are politely dismissed at worst you are put away for the good of the DEMOCRACY....

I don’t like Lowes, HomeDepot, et al for different reasons. Aside from what you stated about some 18 year old girl named Laqueesha with 4 inch nails working in lumber dept, yeah, thats a valid complaint.
But my biggest complaint are the actual ads that they run. Every ad they run portrays the man of the family being a bumbling buffoon. The man cannot get anything right and only the women of the family and the highly experienced employees bail him out. But not before he is humiliated and hangs his head. I would like to see the reaction if the wife was portrayed as such a fumbling idiot.
Second on the list is when I want a 3/4 inch 90degree PVC elbow I don’t want to wade through Steve and Kathy Burkowitz and little twins Kayla and Kaytlin picking out lampshades and area rugs. If I see another man in HomeDepot with a pink oxford shirt and penny loafers following his wife to the designer curtains aisle, I think I am going to scream.

The liberals again show their ignorance of capitalism. The reason why companies advertise on the Fox News channel is that they actually have a large number of viewers and not due to any ideology. If you were trying to boost sales would you rather spend your advertising dollar on MSNBC or CBS News where the number of household tuning in barely equals the population of South Dakota or Fox News that has the largest audience of any cable channel?

Thats no secret that Murdoch/Fox News contribute to Hillary. They had a big fund raiser for her a couple of years ago....reported by NewsMax, WND, and others

Murdoch has supported libs before. Even back in Australia he supported the Labour party in the 1970s.

I guess the point made by some on this thread is that there is some nuttiness in the liberals disdain for Fox...for Fox sides with libs on a number of things

This is one of those subjects worth lurking on DU to get an idea how much moonbat support is behind it. I dare say they may scare off a few advertisers but they may end up helping a few as well. Sadly this country is split more or less right down the middle and it may be hard to say who has the most consumer clout.

RE: Liberal Activists Step Up Campaign Against FOX News
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,291246,00.html

It’s time to expose MoveOn.org. Much was said by Michael Moore and the left about the Bush family and their investing with the Carlyle Group. The Bush family left the Carlyle Group right after 9/11. George Soros remained with the Carlyle Group and is one of the largest investors in the Carlyle Group today. The Carlyle Group profits from the Military Industrial Complex. George Soros profits from the Military Industrial Complex via the Carlyle Group. George Soros also funds all of the MoveOn.org umbrella groups. In effect, MoveOn.org benefits from the Military Industrial Complex and the Iraq War via George Soros.

MoveOn.org needs to be exposed for the blood money that they have on their hands. Please investigate and expose these hypocrites.

Fox must now eat its just desserts. Murdoch brought in Chernin, hired many correspondents let go by CNN, and signed up liberal "contributors" like Juan Williams, David Corn, Ellen Ratner, Geraldo Rivera, Jane Hall, Neal Gabler and Eleanor Clift--far more in number than broadcast networks hired conservative commentators.

Thus, it comes as no surprise that the Fox staff is 80% liberal, gives heavily to Democrats and dumbs-down its programming to attract more liberals to replace the conservatives they are losing. Having tried to be "fair and balanced," Fox misunderstood the game: By its attempts to correct its image and cater to liberals, in effect admitting a bias, Fox invited a boycott of its advertisers. Fox would have been wiser to have had the courage to stand up to its accusers by arguing product quality. Instead, Fox went wobbly and caved.

But the reward was foreseeable. Liberals never wanted a debate on the issues. They have always wanted a monopoly on the news (and the entertainment media message) that extends from MSM channels to cable to Hollywood to the classroom. That's why liberals steal and destroy newspapers deemed not sufficiently leftist, shout down conservative speakers, are classically intolerant of the beliefs of others, use spokespersons with some flaw that makes them difficult to criticize without looking insensitive (Coulter was right), ban contrary opinion through campaign reform legislation, and push their agenda through the courts since other means have failed.

An effective tactic has been to make their constituents a "protected class" under hate crimes and EEO laws, a key part of their giveaway package. It's right out of the Goebbels play book. Fox put on blinders, and was blindsided. What dupes.

.
