GRANITE CITY, Ill. — A Metro East baby sitter is being held on charges she allowed a man to have sex with a 12-year-old girl in her care for money.
Amber Salts, 20, was charged Friday with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and pimping. Salts allegedly took the girl to the Granite City home of 48-year-old Larry Westwood on July 18 and July 25 and allowed him to have sex with her, said Madison County sheriff's Sgt. Mike Dixon.
Westwood allegedly paid the girl $140 after the assaults. Officials say she split part of the money with Salts.
Westwood has been charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault.
Dixon said Salts was once "romantically involved" with Westwood and knew that he was assaulting the girl. The girl was treated at a local hospital this week and released with no physical injuries.
Salts and Westwood are being held at the Madison County jail. Salts is being held on $7,500 bond. Westwood's bond is $150,000.

I think our problem is this:
In the old days we put crazy people in an asylum. Now, we put them on Jerry Springer. And when we catch a dirt bag like this, we let them out on light sentences. At best we might get to stick a needle in their arm. And a needle does not send a message to the next criminal thinking of doing harm to others.
We need to send a message.
These people are not crazy, they are evil.

Am I the only one here who suspect that her own "romantic involvement" with Westwood began when she was about the same age as the girl in this story?
It's not an excuse for what she did, but I'd bet is the right explanation for it. Westwood sounds like a predator.

Why is her bond 5% of his bond in this case? Where are the girl's parents?
We should exile Westwood and Salts to Iran and shoot them with a Inter Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). Maybe we could exile the traitors in Congress and the media to Iran too.
$7500 bond seems really low for pimping a child - it should be at least as high as for molesting a child.
