THE SITUATION AT GOLDEN GATE PARK
The San Francisco Chronicle ^ | July 29, 2007 | Phillip Matier, Andrew Ross

Posted on 07/29/2007 2:35:55 PM PDT by Baladas

They tell us he was steaming, but San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom shouldn't have been too surprised when The Chronicle reported that Golden Gate Park was littered with used drug syringes.

After all, his own Public Health Department spent $800,000 last year to help hand out some 2 million syringes to drug users under the city's needle exchange program -- sometimes 20 at a time.

Although Health Department officials say 2 million needles were returned, the fact is they don't count them and can only estimate how many are coming back.

And from the looks of things, a lot of them aren't.

Mary Howe, director of the Homeless Youth Alliance, which operates a needle exchange program near the park with the help of city money, said her group gets back only about 70 percent of the needles it distributes.

"People lose them or the police take them,'' Howe said.

And it's not just the city handing out needles.

Under legislation passed in 2005 by the same Board of Supervisors whose members now decry the needle problem, anyone over 18 can walk into a Walgreens or Rite Aid and buy as many as 10 needles -- no questions asked.

Liberal solutions are even ineffective in dealing with liberal problems in liberal cities.

Liberals create a health hazard and a potential doping problem with needle exchange programs. All that feel-good symbolism has backfired. Its not the welcoming image of San Francisco Newsom had in mind.

Not surprising...

The Liberal answer to everything seems to make the situation worse, or at minimum - no better.

Liberal answer to teen pregnancy - abortion training, hand out condoms, and say “Have Safe Sex”. Result - vastly increased and younger sexual activities. Growing abortion rate. continued major problem of teen pregnancy, and STDs still rampant (although there are some newer drugs to help the symptoms of incurable herpies!).

Liberal answer to forest management - stop controlled burns and let the forests and her critters live “naturally”. Result - rampant forest fires consuming vast areas of woods each year.

Liberal answer for energy problems - restrict exploration, virtually shut down construction of new refineries, stifling regulation of fuel types and formulas, roadblocks to drilling for oil - often using lies, and reliance on bad or incomplete science for solutions. Result - $3+ per gallon gasoline, and even further dependence on our Islamic enemies for our energy supply.

Liberal answer to IV drug use and the rampant AIDS among those folks —— Give them the supplies needed to continue the addiction. Result - growing number of IV drug users, AIDS still going through the population, and used syringes littering public parks...

Why don’t they just have city employees do the injections.

Leftists unable to grasp the absurdity of passing out needles for drug use, of drug and crime infested homeless encampments within the city, of scattered discarded needles and the health hazard they produce, of stepping over human excrement on the city’s streets—are like Muslims unable to grasp the absurdity of chopping off heads, of stoning people to death, of ripping of faces with piano wires, of blowing up innocent people in crowded market places, all in the name of God.

It's like Battery Park and the surrounding area of Burlington in the Peoples' Republic Of Vermont.

When I went there back in the 60s as a kid it was clean and really a nice place to go.

Not any more.

Seems the appearance of the needles in the park coincided with the election of the first democRats since the Civil War in the 60s.

That was when the trust fund hippies moving in outnumbered the "natives," (us).

Remind me never to go there everyone. If me or my kids were to get stabbed by an infected needle somehow, somebody will fry, and it won’t be us.

LOL, San Fransicko.

The place is the perfect magnet for all manner of sodomites, perverts, junkies, and goofballs.
I say, “Leave the place alone.”

The only time the federal government should step in is if people deliberately take children into the place, in which case somebody should be jailed for child abuse.

Exactly...

The more you cuddle a problem the more of it you will have.

Want more poverty? - give out more welfare.

Want more drug abuse? - provide more needles and detox centers.

Want more unemployment? Increase unemployment benefits.

etc, etc.

I’m sure that the Mayor just assumed all those leftist addicts would be good recyclers.

Yep, and its fearless leader, "any twosome Newsom"...someone once said that the people get the government they deserve.

"I’m sure that the Mayor just assumed all those leftist addicts would be good recyclers."

Easy solution: Charge the junkies a deposit on syringes... and since they are of course downtrodden, start another government program to give them money for the deposit. Should work just a well as all the other Liberal solutions!

If an addict used one needle per day that would be enough for 5,480 addicts for one year.

From the condition that city is in, I think San Francisco needs more needles!
