"PEACE Mom" Cindy Sheehan brought her impeach-George-Bush-and-fire-Nancy-Pelosi sideshow to Independence Mall last week, giving fellow Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS) sufferers a healthy outlet to talk crazy and feel good about themselves.
There was one surprise. The "Peace Mom," invited here by an antiwar-veterans' group, was heckled by another veterans' group. (The "Peace Mom" is rarely heckled because if you criticize her, you are "mean.")
I know about Attention Deficit Disorder, which apparently was discovered (invented?) after my childhood because no one I grew up with had it. Kids were fidgety, kids were inattentive - kids were stupid, even - but there was no medical term for it.
Sheehan has a different form of Attention Deficit Disorder.
When not getting attention, she gets disorderly.
So many in the media have paid so much attention to her, Sheehan thinks she is a leader.
To be fair, she does lead a pack of moon-baying fringers so gripped by BDS they forget that impeaching George Bush would make Dick Cheney president. Is their goal to replace Pinocchio with Geppetto?
Or is the idea to simultaneously remove Cheney, making Nancy Pelosi president?
Hold on! I just figured out Sheehan's game.
Two months ago she denounced America and the Democratic Party and walked away from an ego-driven peace movement "to go home and be a mother to my surviving [adult] children," she said, adding she's "finished working in, or outside of this system."
Two months without TV face time and her ADD kicked in.
Sheehan now says - breaking her word, just like the cheesy politicians she criticizes - she will move into Pelosi's San Francisco district and run against her because Democrats have not ended the war (yet), as if the nightmare were a bulb they could switch off.
As an exasperated Sen. Joe Biden tried to explain during the Democratic presidential debate, you can't instantly remove 160,000 troops from Iraq (not to mention their supplies and friendly Iraqis) by wiggling your nose like Samantha on "Bewitched."
Not good enough for Sheehan, who demands an end to the war yesterday and impeachment now!
Should Democrats succeed in impeaching and removing Bush and Cheney (ain't gonna happen), and Sheehan defeats Pelosi (ain't gonna happen) and Sheehan becomes speaker (really ain't gonna happen), the order of succession would make Sheehan the president.
Her Grand Plot revealed. (Is this any crazier than some of what she says?)
Despite Bush's approval ratings being lower than a worm in a trench (only Congress has lower approvals!) wasting time trying to remove him will make Democrats look as out of touch with reality as he is. America's sick of Bush, but the only ones screaming for impeachment are the fringers crazed with BDS.
Sheehan and her merry band of Impeachistas are fighting the last war instead of the next one.
The next war comes next year when we elect the next president. The enemy is not named Bush. The enemy has names like McCain, Giugliani, Thompson, Romney. (I use "enemy" in the political sense only. I'm not calling them "terrorists" - as Sheehan has Bush.)
Sheehan has transformed herself from an object of pity into a bridge-burning object of ridicule. Since she can't actually believe she'll beat Pelosi, her challenge is only to make a "statement.
The statement is that Sheehan is addicted to limelight and an obstacle to the cause she advocates. *
