Actions in Congress on Monday as lawmakers worked toward adjourning next week for their August recess.

CONGRESS-ETHICS
Democratic leaders released a package of ethics changes they hope to have through the House and Senate before the beginning of their August recess. Under the bill, senators would have to identify their earmarks publicly two days before a vote. Also, lobbyists and their clients would be prohibited from giving gifts, including meals and tickets, to senators and their staffs. The House added the gift ban in January.
NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND
The head of the House Education Committee wants the No Child Left Behind law changed to allow merit pay for teachers and a new way of judging schools. Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., says the law should pay teachers extra for boosting student achievement. He also says other tests or graduation rates instead of just math and reading tests should be considered for judging schools. The House could vote on the legislation in September.
JAPAN SEX SLAVES
The House approved a resolution urging Japan to apologize for coercing thousands of women to work as sex slaves for its World War II military. The resolution is symbolic, but it has caused unease in Japan and added tension to an otherwise strong alliance. Officials in Tokyo say their country's leaders have apologized repeatedly.

All of us Korean sex US tax slaves.. ;-) We dole it out, They rake it in..
it is really hard to use ethics and lib/dem in the same sentence....unless
the qualifier is lack of or just NO ~ ethics!!!
The first bill sounds great but I’m sure in practice it will only apply to Republicans. The second also sounds great but I’m sure will be protested and eventually defeated by the “education” lobby. The third is a typical silly and insulting slap in the face to one of our allys in the WOT
It seems to me Pelosi was wanting to get rid of earmarks by renaming them “legislative directives” instead.
The same people who turned the control of Congress over to them in the first place. The biggest issue, bigger than the war, was percieved "ethics" problems of Congress, well the Republican part of it. Ethics problems like those of "Cold Cash" Jefferson, ans "feathering her own nest" Fienstien, were swept under the rug as much as possible by their cohorts in the MSM.
