Newspaper editor shot to death in targeted killing on Oakland street

OAKLAND -- Chauncey Bailey, editor of the Oakland Post and a former reporter for the Oakland Tribune, was shot to death this morning on a downtown Oakland street in what police described as a targeted killing.

Bailey, 58, was shot just before 7:30 a.m. on 14th Street near Alice Street, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses said a lone gunman dressed in dark clothing approached Bailey, shot him several times and ran away.

Bailey, who lives in Oakland, was known for his assertive style of questioning city officials, said police spokesman Roland Holmgren.

Holmgren said investigators believe the shooting was an assassination-style hit.

"This is madness," said Holmgren, who knew Bailey personally. "He held our feet to the fire; he kept me on my toes."

The Oakland Post, circulation 49,500, is geared toward the East Bay's African American community. . . .

That would have been;

“He licked our feet by the fire; he licked me on my toes.”

Gee, yah think? Once again, the captain of the good ship Bleeding Obvious sails to the rescue... Do you suppose I can get odds on this guy's office and house catching fire in the next few hours?

If government officials ban guns, then only government officials will have guns.

I used to live on Oakland Street. Right next to the Fire Station. Whew. I am glad I moved.

What makes you think the shooter used a “legal” gun?
In fact, those men in black use alien weapons that don’t fit into any category- yet.
