Online Poll Receives a Staggering 16,371 Individually Validated Ballots
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FreedomWorks officially closed its Republican Presidential Straw Poll early this morning after 16,371 limited government conservatives cast their votes over 3 days of polling. Texas Representative Ron Paul won by a wide margin with 56 percent of the vote. Senator Fred Thompson snatched the second place position, with Duncan Hunter taking third. The FreedomWorks Straw Poll provides the most complete view of the limited government movement heading into the Iowa Straw Poll on August 11th. FreedomWorks launched this Straw Poll to gauge the opinions of the economic conservative community. The Straw Poll was open to the grassroots community from July 31 to August 2 on the FreedomWorks web site. Voters had a choice of one of the eleven current and likely future candidates in the race for the GOP presidential nomination in 2008.
The FreedomWorks GOP Straw Poll was engineered to allow for only one vote per e-mail address, and all email addresses had to be validated to count in the poll, making it one of the most accurate online polls.
FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe commented:
"FreedomWorks would like to thank all 16,371 Straw Poll participants for taking the time to vote for their candidate. We congratulate Ron Paul on his victory, and hope the Straw Poll raises awareness of limited government issues in the 08 race. One of the more interesting untold stories of the current primary is how well organized and enthusiastic Ron Paul and Fred Thompson supporters are online.
The Straw Poll is an early part of FreedomWorks overall 2008 voter education effort. FreedomWorks activists have already intercepted candidates in key primary states. In addition, activists are passing out the FreedomWorks 2008 Presidential Candidate Survey to get candidates on the record on key issues such as regulation, entitlement reform and taxes.
FreedomWorks Chairman Dick Armey has personally visited with most of the GOP candidates in recent months to discuss how the big ideas of the Freedom Agenda made conservatives successful in the 1990s.
FreedomWorks will also sponsor a Straw Poll for the Democrat field from August 7 to 9. This poll will provide an interesting view of how fiscal conservatives view the Democrat candidates on economic and limited government issues.

Somewhere, someone has a sore finger, but sits in smug satisfaction of having given their candidate another, ahem, "victory".
Sore finger?
Isn’t he the kook that our current rulers don’t want in the race?
brownback beats mccain. too funny.
Yeah. It takes a lot of clicking to vote that many times. Especially if the e-mail addresses weren't already created. ;-)
Looky Ron Paul wins another poll.
Or sheeple are awakening everywhere to the fact that there is no party which supports the will of the people, only that of plutocrat, big government, war pigs.
I guess the point of view just depends on the opacity of one’s tinfoil blinders and one’s degree of parasitic dependence on the Corporate Media.

None of these polls mean a damn thing if they aren't checking party affiliation. Libs can and do vote in these polls, and it's the "anti-war" statement to choose Ron Paul to screw with the GOP primary.
The Moonbat Kingdom.
that time is coming.
If "the kingdom" believes this, then they are delusional. This poll could be voted in by anyone with an email address. I voted in it. I know for a fact that Democrats and other leftists are "voting" for Ron Paul in online surveys and polls to push their anti-war position. (My Democrat father-in-law does it daily.)
LOL! Stop, you’re killing me.
The only one that didn’t beat McCain was T. Thompson. lol
Interesting. I plan on voting for him in the primaries, but I don’t think he has a real chance of winning.
Ahem, no...

I clicked who I voted for, it sent an email to that address which I had to open and click a link to verify I answered as I did. I voted one time and one time only. For Rep. Ron Paul
Although I'm personally a Ron Paul supporter, this line is simple Barbara Streisand. I have 7 active email addresses and could activate an unlimited number at any time through my domain mailserver. So FreedomWorks system really doesn't limit anyone to a single vote. One vote per IP address is slightly better, except that many people can share a single IP address, not to mention that it's pretty easy to use proxies to change your IP address.
