AN ODD CLOSE. As the Military and Progressives panel came to an end, a young man in uniform stood up to argue that the surge was working, and cutting down on Iraqi casualties. The moderator largely freaked out. When other members of the panel tried to answer his question, he demanded they stand down. He demanded the questioner give his name, the name of his commander, and the name of his unit. And then he closed the panel, no answer offered or allowed, and stalked off the stage,

....what are you surprised? They’re libs. If this guy had been towing a liberal line, they wouldn’t have had a problem with this guy being in uniform.

So, how’d we get a “right wing plant” into their little forum? < /sarc >
“If this guy had been towing a liberal line, they wouldnt have had a problem with this guy being in uniform.”
Exactly.
B-b-b-b-b-but they “support the troops”
“....what are you surprised? Theyre libs. If this guy had been towing a liberal line, they wouldnt have had a problem with this guy being in uniform.”
This about says it all; except the moderator appeared to be a very stupid person. Military or no military rules; this guy was one hothead. No control.
This brings to the fore the main problem of the politics of military engagements - who speaks for the troops? In principle the troops on the ground are the ones who know the score. But in principle democracy depends on having a military which does not interject itself into politics.
How are we to square that circle? The leftist answer is that it doesn't matter what military people think - at least, not when those military people disagree with them. IMHO the conservative answer has to be to ask, "How is recruitment doing?" If the military are frustrated and demoralized in Iraq, the grapevine will transmit that fact to society and will suppress enlistments - to say nothing of reenlistments.
They probably thought he was going to speak out against the surge. When he did`nt, they had to shut him up as quickly as possible. And Clark is just another Kos butt kisser.
Does John “I served in Vietnam” Kerry have anything to comment on this?
“But in principle democracy depends on having a military which does not interject itself into politics.”
True, but I don`t think he was trying to argue the politics of whether or not we should have gone into Iraq. I think he was just giving his military opinion on how the surge was working out.
What a surprise. Wes Clark consorting with moonbats.
Unbelievable!
Funny thing happened on that link. There is NO SOUND when the soldier is speaking.
I wish I could find the quote again. It was very edifying and the Colonel (he was not yet a general, could have been Major or Lt. Col.) avowed, "Never again!" in so many words.
Yet, here he is today after so many years among those very folks. . . .
John “Reporting for Duty” Kerry would probably agree with Kos silencing that man. The left applauded Kerry for speaking out against the Vietnam War while still in the military and wearing a uniform. But this guy had to be silenced on the trumped up charge of wearing a uniform.
The only time the anti-USA people support the troops is when they die in combat. They cheer each time the casualty count goes up, and have an outright orgy when it hits a milestone divisible by 100.
Sad to say, it isn't. He's been around the bend for a while.
“You may not use any political speech while you are in uniform.”
Doesn't that speak volumes about how our troops are handcuffed and threatened by rules that only allow Dissenting ex-Military Members to bloviate and commit acts of treason against our country. The left joyfully using military policy to only allow one side of the argument to be represented.
Disgusting
