Strawman. I never said anything at all about the Catholic Church, because I know very little about the Catholic Church. I do know that they believe that I as a believer in Jesus Christ (who is God) am assured of salvation.

Mormonism does not. You gondramB will not spend eternity with Jesus Christ or God (two separate people) unless you are baptized and covenanted as a Mormon. Of course someone can take care of that for you after you are dead, so you have nothing to worry about. Right?

No you didn’t mention the Catholic Church but the Catholic church does two of the same things you mentioned about Mormons - claim they are the one true church and claim their leader can speak for God infallibly.

Every denomination has problems - this tendency to judge other Christians is one such problem that’s for God. If they ask forgiveness in Jesus’ name, worship the God of Abraham, love their neighbors and their works are good they have done what Jesus said was most important.

I was LDS for 45 years. I have experienced that it is not a Biblical Christian Church. When you have lived on both sides let me know. :-)

But until Mitt talks with the American people about his basic beliefs and convinces them that even though he is in a fringe religious group (numerically), that he is still normal.

Stop with your silly "the American people" schtuff. When you say "The American people," what you really mean is people like you.

So let me ask YOU: What exactly is it that YOU fear might happen if this country elects a Mormon President? Can YOU even articulate it?

Don't chicken out.

If I have insulted your denomination, I apologize.

No, I don't feel insulted. I was just commenting that there is a misunderstanding by a lot of people on the difference between the two churches. The radical ideas of Obama's church are much different

There is plenty of hope for those miners.

Well, the TV showed graphics that said they WERE doing it that way.

(Who to believe? ;^)

HOPE indeed then!!! MIRACLES even!

My buddy in the sound booth at church worked in a limestone mine. They have 'streets' and 'avenues' cut in the limestone, with columns of rock left that support the overburden.

It seems as they get about 3/4 of the material this way.

Our previous Pastor and his dad used to work in a coal mine on the ILL/IND border. It was a below ground one, not an open pit like the ones mostly in IND.

Silly you are trying to align apostate man’s church with the Lord restored Church

Are the Fundies in Colorado City part of the 'Restored Church'?

Are the old RLDS, now Community of Christ, part of the 'Restored Church'?

If the Lord wanted Elsie to know Elsie would be LDS!

If the Lord wanted Restornu and the other LDS members to know, He would have had it written down somewhere!

THESE are supposed to be some kind of authority for the quite detailed things that go on in the Temples?

You’ve lost me; for I see no instructions given.

It’s OK if you don’t believe it but I do.

But WHY do you believe it?

Surely not just because someone, somewhere, at some point in time said to 'do these things' and there is NO record to be found with the details??

And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Nothing you posted shows anything about WHERE the Temple rites were instituted.

Divine authority was restored to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through a visitation of the resurrected John the Baptist in 1829 near Harmony (now Oakland), Pennsylvania, and sometime afterwards through the appearance of the resurrected ancient apostles Peter, James and John.

You mean there has actually been a MINI-Resurrection that has taken place?

One that has preceded the one talked of in Thessalonians?

Are you saying they are not Christian because the do not fight?

That are 'un' christian because they believe that Christ is merely an angel - Michael.

They are 'un' American because they not only won't fight, but they will not swear alligience to this country!

Beliefs—Role in Society

Respect for Authority

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that it is their Christian responsibility to be model citizens. For this reason, they honor and respect governmental authority. Only on those rare occasions when a government demands what is in direct conflict with what God commands do Jehovah's Witnesses decline to comply. Their publications and public ministry encourage everyone to be law-abiding.—Matthew 22:17-21; Acts 5:29; Romans 13:1-7.

Relationship to Society

Jehovah's Witnesses are found at all levels of society, and they do not physically separate themselves from those who do not share their beliefs. They live, work, and go to school with people of different religious beliefs, and they enjoy cordial relationships with them. Jehovah's Witnesses follow Jesus' example of being "no part of the world" by avoiding the unchristian prejudices and controversies that divide mankind today. Although not ascetics, they avoid being excessive in the pursuit of wealth, pleasure, or prominence.—John 17:15, 16; 1 John 2:15, 16.

Neutrality

Following the examples set by Jesus and first-century Christians, Jehovah's Witnesses do not share in the politics or wars of any nation. Their stand of Christian neutrality is well documented in history. They firmly believe that they must "beat their swords into plowshares" and not "learn war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4) At the same time, Jehovah's Witnesses recognize the authority of nations to raise armies and defend themselves, and they do not interfere with what others choose to do.—John 18:36.

Jesus is my Savior and I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Amen.

We have a new website on The Washington Post/Newsweek called On Faith, and we have about 80 panelists from every different religion. The hardest group to find panelists for is Mormons. We have one Mormon, and that’s Mike Otterson, who is the spokesperson for the Mormon Church, and we keep saying, get us Mormons, get us Mormons, but nobody wants to do it. The only other problem we have is with Catholic priests. (Chuckles.)

We did get some guest voices when we had a question on Mormonism. We wanted Bill Marriott and Harry Reid, and they both turned us down, and then I called Mike and he got them to speak out. But Marriott’s PR person told him not to do it, that it would be dangerous for Mormons. Basically what he said was, I love my family, I care about my community — you know, all the things that you would want to hear from somebody, and yet there is this real reluctance. I think that’s one of the things that lead people to believe that there is a secrecy, when in fact what they finally wrote was lovely and very compelling.

I told you in Post #1124 and if you wanted to know more to search the scriptures but all you Elsie wanted to do was to taunt the LDS

You have your answer now in post #398 and also post #399 it would be best you stop harrasssing the LDS on this question!

The lack of allegiance thing, I think, is a mistake on their part. They are trying to emulate 1st century Christians but those Christians had no good choice for a nation to be faithful too.

I have not heard that Jehovah’s witnesses don’t consider Jesus to be the Messiah. Do you know a good source on that?

LN,

No, when I say “The American People”, I mean
The American People. They like to feel they
know the character of their President. They
want him to be likable, consistent, etc.

Do you read about these things???

I, personally, will not be voting for someone
in a cult for POTUS - regardless if the cult is
mormonism, jehovah’s witness, Hare Krishna, etc.
That’s pretty simple. No one in a cult earns my
vote for POTUS. My call.

best,
ampu

“Please provide examples where this has happened in the past with other LDS candidates.”

since we’ve never had a mormon President, I think that would
be difficult!

It’s a strange religion that was debunked years ago when the U.S. Supreme Court outlawed polygamy.

Uh, so the Supreme Court is the arbiter of which faith is the correct one?

I'm not a Mormon and have a great many disagreements with their doctrine, but this statement is just weird.
