I am writing about an issue that concerns me greatly. I reside in Southern MN and, like everyone in this area, was shocked and saddened by the recent tragedy that has occurred in Minneapolis. The Phelps Family of the Westboro Baptist Church (or "WBC") in Topeka, KS, the same who picketed funerals of fallen soldiers back from Iraq, plans to picket the funerals of the victims of the bridge collapse. I am severely outraged at this disrespectful display of hate, and I am certain that others would feel the same way were they to know of these plans. I am telling you this in hopes that this will be made public, and that others will be inspired to take legal and respectful action to deter any additional trauma to the families of these victims. What is the reasoning behind this? These people were not part of the government. WBC can "argue" that God caused the bridge to collapse to punish the US. But how does that make the people who died "at fault", so their funerals need to be protested?

For soldiers, it is that they are fighting for the US government and therefore somehow part of the "approval" of homosexuality by the US government. God caused 9/11 because the government approves of homosexuality. (I can only spend so much time on their website before I start throwing things at my monitor).

A friend of mine belongs to a patriotic motorcycle riders group. I am not sure of their name. However, one of their activities is to volunteer to escort military funerals (at family’s request). They surround the gravesite with a flag line, thus providing a physical and visual barrier in order to spare the family from having to see these ridiculous protesters.
