No surrender (in Iraq) [Must Read!]
The Seattle Times ^ | August 5, 2007 | Ambassador Bruce Chapman

Posted on 08/05/2007 8:17:34 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The tempting thought that it is now safe to begin withdrawing from Iraq is being dangled in front of the American people this summer. Maybe if the United States and our allies pull out, or pull over, or pull to the side, the Shiite and Sunni moderates — facing destruction — will summon the ability to defeat al-Qaida and Iran's Shiite surrogates and go on to construct a solid peace.

It is more likely, however, that bloodshed of historic proportions will flow. Not hundreds of deaths a week, as now, but hundreds of thousands in a few months, and the depopulation of large areas. Instead of daily news of roadside bombs, prepare yourself for day after day of genocide stories. Shiite will fight Sunni. In the north of Iraq, the Kurds could well come under attack from Turkey, a U.S. ally that justifiably fears the terrorist PKK (People's Workers Party) operating on its border. Emboldened by America's defeat, Iran not only will engage more in Iraq, but also will foment further Hezbollah attacks on Israel. Lebanon is liable to revert to Syrian control. Afghanistan will get shakier as the Taliban base in Pakistan grows. Operating opportunistically through it all will be the global conspiracy of al-Qaida.

Withdrawal now is really a euphemism for surrender. An honest public opinion poll would phrase the question that way. After all, even war supporters want withdrawal — the sooner the better — if it is the product of a credible handover to the Iraqi government. But, defeat described as "withdrawal" will not reduce American casualties in the long run, because the war will spread. Gloating, al-Qaida will turn still more attention to the American homeland.

No reasonable debate here, losing in Iraq at this point is losing in ways we can’t even conceive of right now !!!

I honestly think this goes beyond a Vietnam type withdrawal. The bad guys in the Middle East have already shown us on 9\11 the type of hurt they can put on us. Lose to these maggots in Iraq and I don’t even want to think about the demonstration they’ll put on in the future !!!

Excellent article, thanks for posting.

With much of the MSM on the side of the enemy it’s understandable that many of our citizens turn against the war. That should not be the case with our elected officials who swear to protect this country.

There are far too many in Washington ready to turn their back on the security of our nation for short term political gain. It’s disgusting.

I think the fact that we are in Iraq and Afghanistan is the reason some do not understand. They won’t understand until after the next terrorist attack on U.S. soil.

Moreover, if we withdraw too soon, many Iraqis who trusted us and worked with us will vote with their bodies to come to America as refugees. Some politicians may try to keep them out — the way that Gov. Jerry Brown of California tried to keep out the Vietnamese boat people after the fall of Saigon in 1975.

First I've heard of this. What did Brown do, specifically, to try to keep out the boat people?

“If we had had the guts to face the fascists in the 20s and the 30s, perhaps we could have avoided World War II,” Abizaid said. “If we keep the guts to confront Osama bin Laden and his very dangerous ideology today, perhaps we can avoid World War III.” -General Abizaid

There is a yet-to-be-defined illness from which liberals suffer. Vietnam was largely a democrat’s defeat. Johnson created the pretext for a build up, did the build up, etc.
even though Nixon presided over the withdrawal.

Somewhere in the liberal mindset is the desire to make conservatives/Republicans suffer the same humiliation they did for making a string of bad decisions.

The weak point in this conjecture is that the press was all over Johnson during the Vietnam War as it is all over Bush now in Iraq.

Still I can hear some thinking “Come on! Screw up like we did!!!”

Tacking this on here:

Terrorists in Their Own Words -(A compilation drawn from translations ......)

************************Intro*********************************

Islamist terrorists have long been at war with the United States and frequently have proclaimed their determination to win the war. In fact, they see their enemies' unwillingness to acknowledge this war as an act of cowardice. If their enemies refuse to wear the mantle of warrior, terrorists assume that they are weak, lacking in honor, and spiritually inferior—and the notion that their enemy is vulnerable emboldens them. Failing to acknowledge that we are at war only encourages the enemy to be more warlike.

Conclusive proof that terrorists are at war with us requires little more than reading their own words. A compilation drawn from translations of a number of authoritative sources illustrates the nature of the challenge that America and its allies face and what needs to be done to combat it.

Fascinating Analysis of Leftist Goals, August 13, 2006

Reviewer: N. Sincerity - See all my reviews

A former 1960s radical, Horowitz is well-acquainted with the Leftist mindset. In this book, he strives to explain the modern alliance between left wing progressivists and radical Islamofascists. He argues that this alliance is based on a common desire to destroy Western capitalism. Leftist sympathy with Islamofascist ideas makes no sense from an intellectual point of view, given that countries ruled by radical Islamists are among the most racist, sexist, theocratic states in the world today. However, Leftists have recognized that they can benefit politically from destructive terrorist attacks on the Western world. A West under attack can be made to turn on its leaders in fear and desperation (as they did in Spain after the Madrid train bombings). Only once people reject current government structures can the Left execute its anti-capitalist revolution and build a new reality that mirrors the Leftist view of utopia.

The complete and utter idealogical hypocrisy of the Islamofascist-Leftist alliance is distressing, but as Horowitz reminds us,

Leftists radicals truly believe the ends justify the means.

The tempting thought that it is now safe to begin withdrawing from Iraq is being dangled in front of the American people this summer.
About a week or so ago I turned on the Mark Levin show and the Great One was off and his substitute (forget his name, but he was good) said that the best news of summer is that Congress is finally adjourning for vacation and we'll have a break from the constant whining and moaning from Reid, Pelosi and company. Amen to that! Let's enjoy the month of August while it lasts!

One line is hardly a lecture, unless it's done in the University of Short attention spans.

The General actually took part in one of the latter battles, (Grenada,) of WW-III.
Being a General and a "ring knocker" doesn't give license to revise history.

What we see here is also an example of why dividing Iraq into 3 different countries.
