Does this mean it is time for the US to surrender?
Darn tooting it does! If the US doesn’t, there is a real chance that Iraq could become a success, and that would be a horrible problem for the “true patiot we support the troops” Democra@ party! Its time to act and withdraw NOW, regardless of the Iraqi and US troop loses that might result, if the Democra@s are to secure elecoral victory!

So let me get this straight. A group of “citizens” in an Iraq town/city turn in the local terrorists hanging out in their Mosque. And they decided to turn them in because they concluded that murder, torture, and hate are the wrong things to pursue. Uh...no that’s not correct they turned them in because the stupid terrorists are killing them instead of Jews, Christians, Hindus etc, you know the correct people to kill. While the terrorists were killing the correct people these folks were mum. Some helped them, many tacitly approved of their activities. So today we find out that a Mosque is in the slaughter up to it’s arm pits and we send in the Iraqi Army to investigate? The same Iraqi Army that has been found time and again to be compromised by terrorists and Iranians? And we don’t even enter the hell hole because we don’t want to offend these barbarians? Even after twenty thousand or so of our finest people have been wounded and maimed by these animals and over three thousand killed. All for the awful crime of freeing these people from an evil dictator and trying to help them rebuild their country and furnish them with a civilized society. And we think this is a good thing. That things are turning around. Well IMHO this isn’t a good thing. It is a better thing than what has been going on but good? No not by a long shot. My GERRRR meter is about pegged up scale.

Some of us have voiced the need for this type action over a period of time. At least at this late date, some Iraqi are really taking the bull by the horn. It is going to be a long time to convince the majority of Iraqi that they must put tribal/sectarian allegiences aside and support a new Iraq.
Our splendid military as well as all the coalition partners can only do so much. You can lead a camel to the watering hole, but you can't make him/her drink.
Do enough Iraqi in enough provinces really want to start drinking the good water from the well.

Amazing news! Too bad it won’t be reported on the alphabet stations.

Guarantee this is not a topic at the Daily Kos convention

Thanks Fred.
The initial takeover of the Abu Hanifa Mosque occurred at about 2 p.m., apparently triggered by news that terrorists had murdered two relatives of a prominent local sheik. As the news spread, angry residents joined the sheik to storm the mosque, long believed to be a sanctuary for terrorists operating in the area, and ousted the suspected terrorists inside from the building... At about 7 p.m., Iraqi forces returned to the Abu Hanifa Mosque and uncovered a massive illegal weapons cache in an outside courtyard. The cache contained several already-assembled improvised explosive devices, dynamite, mortars, rockets, landmines, bomb-making materials, and various weapons.
I'm sure that stuff just happened to be buried there, probably by Saddam's armed forces. /sarc

Ever notice how mosques instantly become “holy places” when terrorists move into them? Or that Al Qaeda doesn’t seem to have a problem blowing them up (i.e., Samarra) when it advances their cause?
