Is it just me, or doesn’t is seem like a little too much of a coincidence that we were treated to not one, not two, but three stories in the major socialist print media about Jeri Thompson, Fred’s wife (stories linked below). All these stories within a few days of each other… all semi-hit pieces taking their shots at her past, her looks, or her intentions… all written under the guise of a story about her influence in Fred’s testing the waters campaign.

What really struck me as strange is that these were essentially the same story in three different publications. Sure the Washington Post dove head first into the mud by dredging up irrelevant old boy friends, or decades old financial issues, but the jist of all three stories was a back handed compliment type article about how shrewd/mean Jeri has been helping her husband begin his campaign.
Sooo… why the intense focus on Fred’s wife? The background research this early on… one would think she is the potential candidate. Here’s my theory… the big socialist media is afraid of Fred Thompson’s candidacy, so they are beginning to pound away now.
Fred and Jeri know the game well, and Fred has responded in an interview for the National Review:
“She has taken a lot of comments that should have been directed toward me,” Thompson told me. When he started looking into running for president, Thompson said, there was a lot to be done and very little time to do it, and his wife played a key role in getting things going. “We started literally from the kitchen table a few months ago,” he said. “While I did the things that I felt like I needed to do — I had a contract with NBC television, I had a contract with ABC radio, I was chairman of the advisory board on international security for the State Department, and a lot of other things — while I was disengaging from that and getting my thoughts together on issues and things of that nature, public comments I knew I would be called on to make, I asked her to do certain things for me. She did what I asked her to do.”
The former senator said his wife’s actions, however they have been interpreted in the press, have been at his behest. “She always looks out for my best interests, and when she sees something that she knows I would not approve of, or is not in my best interest, she voices that concern — in other words, just exactly the way I would want her to. Now, some people don’t like that, especially some people who have their own issue with regard to the campaign, shall we say, and they take advantage of putting out anonymous comments and so forth.”
In other words, libs in the media… she’s working for me, stop picking on my wife, and come talk to me… if you have the guts.
I am certain that is what is happening and will continue all the way through the campaign.
In fact, the DNC and other Liberal elements will become more and more hostile, venomous, low and hateful as the campaign progresses and especially so if Fred Thompson receives (as I believe he will) the nearly wholesale affirmation of the American people. Believe me on this, the Liberals are shaking in their shoes over this one! So the more mud the throw at him and his family, the more afraid and desperate they show themselves to be. At this point, I believe that it would be a real detriment to the GOP prospects for the WH if Fred Thompson does NOT run for the nomination of his party. Actually, it will be worse if he does not run than if he runs and does not succeed. His candidacy is THAT significant.
I think the press may have bitten off more than they can chew in attacking Thompson’s wife..
In spite of their insinuations to the contrary she gives every appearance and impression of reasonably intelligent. capable and attractive adult women..
I am sure much to the MSM and Demon-Cratic Party leadership’s dismay..
Considering FT’s background I am sure he nor she will rise to the bait.. or let the MSM and Left’s attacks achieve their objective..
Just think thou, If they keep it up, win or lose the MSM and the left will suffer. Thompson seem to be one of those from the old school for whom the words.

This article says exactly what I've been thinking the last few days. The media got their talking points and marching orders from the DNC, or they got a few phone calls from Fred's Republican opponents. Being that it's the MSM, I'm inclined to think Hillary's campaign folks. The folks in the MSM don't usually pay attention to Republicans, except when their desire is to bash them.
If Fred held a press conference and said words to this effect, his name recognition and approval ratings would skyrocket. People WANT a President who doesn't mince words, who says what he's thinking. Fred is the kind of person who first of all seems to be inclined that way, but who is also old enough and secure enough not to give a hoot what anyone thinks of it anyhow. He is - in this sense - very Trumanesque, and people WILL respond well to it.
