Someone has probably beaten me to it, but... In the UK and ‘Europe’ (spit) the ground floor is what you folks on yr side of the pond call the first floor. Our first is yr second, und so weiter. So in the UK, if floors are about 10 ft apiece, the (UK) third floor window, say, would be about 40 ft. above terra firma.

I guess he didn’t bounce?

"The intruder suffered head injuries and died in hospital after falling around 30ft on to a concrete path."

I've always wondered how they calculate such figures...if the roof is 30' high, then his feet actually fell about 30', but if he was 6' tall, then his head actually fell 36'...

As I recall, there were two burglars. Martin tagged both, the 16-year-old was killed, the other sued for being wounded. Martin was supposed to be able to magically divine these thugs intent, and respond by thanking them for taking his property. No one in Britain ever seems to question why the two targets were in Martin's house or on his land.

It' nice to know that the life and well-being of some murderous thieves is more important than your family. After all, do you really deserve a home, family or belongings when others have so little?

Berk.

Here, fools who try to attack a lonely farm have an excellent chance of catching a bullet or three through the brain pan, with the shooter receiving the approval of the adults and the edification of the kiddies. As such, home invasions are rather rare in the rural areas, and limited to Democrat controlled cities and towns.

You have filled in some info about the "Tony Martin" incident.

But you failed to mention that the 16-year-old yute was a professional criminal with a long record, raised by a criminal family. Also, you failed to mention that Martin had been robbed, threatened and burglarized numerous times already. In many jurisdictions in the U. S., his partner would have been guilty of the death because it was the result of his criminal activity.

It is also true that there are places in the U. S. quite as nutty as Britain.

Sounds like a lack of policing problem to me. Why not have the local cops patrolling the parking lot to prevent this. But, alas, that wouldn?t get the to point that this dope is trying to get to, would it?

I'm not sure even the most liberal US jurisdiction would try to indict a homeowner in the accidental death of a burglar who fell out an upper story window while arguing with that homeowner.

Oops. The replied text was supposed to be:

Proving, once again, that defense of self and property is a crime in the U.K.

NYS, too, unless they've taken that "duty-to-retreat" law off the books....

Archie Bunker, responding to his daughter's whiney tirade about how so many people die by gunfire:

"Would it make you feel any better little girl, if they was pushed out windows?"

On this and many other matters the UK has gotten soft. I’m glad Churchill isn’t around to see what has happened to his country.

That depends on whether you took the burglar by the scruff and seat of the pants and chucked him out the window. Some jurisdictions in the U. S. would be very unhappy about that.

By the way, I would feel a whole lot better having Tony Martin for a neighbor than the 16-year-old burglar and his family.

In civilized Texas we have a different take on it. Here, one is considered justified in using deadly force to prevent malicious mischief on one’s own property if the offense takes place after sundown. A civilised country would have not only refrained from charging Mr. Martin; the responding LEOs would have taken him out for a pint. Great Britain is “Great” no more.
