Lookie at these facts I came across,Louie!

This Day in History:

“August 10
1821 - Missouri or ‘muddy water’ was the name of the river and the Indian tribe that lived in the area ... long before Missouri became the 24th state of the USA on this day. Missouri, the gateway to the West, calls the hawthorn its state flower and the bluebird, its state bird. St. Louis (1820) and St. Charles (1821-1826) were both capital cities of Missouri before Jefferson City. Missouri is also known as the Show Me State. In 1899, Missouri Congressman Willard Duncan Vandiver said, “...frothy eloquence neither convinces nor satisfies me. I am from Missouri. You have got to show me.” The phrase stuck.”

Have a Grrreat day!

That's interesting about how Missouri got it's name. That was one of the facts that I think I neglected to include in the post I put together back in April of 2004 for the Finest Thread in honor of "Missouri". It was before you came to FR, I think. You might enjoy seeing it, so I will post the link. If you go to the Missouri thread, be sure to click on the music links. I tried to include music that goes with this state. I think it fits the "feeling" of Missouri perfectly, but that could be because I love Blues and Ragtime. No matter how sad I am, I can't help from smiling when I hear that music, especially "St.Louis Rag". :-)

A Finest Visit to Missouri
