Yes, my new bifocal Acuviews are not as comfortable as they claim.
Coming soon artificial knees, hips and hearts made in China.
They will own us within 20 years.

It’s not uncommon for people to develop sensitivity to contact lens wear. “Made in China” may, or may not be the cause. My son maintains a pair of backup glasses.

Hubby wears Accuviews and loves them. I tried them and couldn't stand them. Felt like I was wearing sandpaper, and they dried my eyes out instantly. I've been using Focus Night and Days for a few years now. Most comfortable lenses I have ever used.
As an aside, perhaps you should get the fit checked. Not sure if this is accurate, but we were told that the lens should overshoot the iris by a bit. If it rides on the area where the iris meets the sclera that can be a source of irritation. Any opthalmologists out there?

I use the same lenses with no troubles. Of course, contacts give you stoner eyes regardless of brand. Ovie dude.

I don’t wear contacts but I just have to say this is becoming ridiculous ... Exactly how much less can a dime sized sliver of plastic be made to make it economical to produce it halfway around the world and then ship it?

These are your eyes, go see your optometrist.

How old are you? Your eyes get dry when you get older (40+), especially if you are female. If you really had infections, you weren't maintaining proper hygiene when using the lenses. You probably are no longer a candidate for lens wear, but that happens to many. I wore lenses for 35 years and then my eyes went dry. Also some solutions have preservatives and you can be sensitive to the preservatives. You can try switching to a preservative free solution. By all means continue discussing with your doctor.

You really should be looking at daily wear lenses, not extended wear. Talk to your doctor about Restasis for long term dry eye treatment (it takes about 4 to 6 months to even kick in). Short term solution is to use artificial tears like Tears Naturale or others (different people like different brands try small samples until you find one you like). You should also increase your intake of oils by eating flaxseed oil or fish oil. There are capsule you can take. The Thera-Tears line of products (oils, eyedrops, and eyewashes) is the best on the market for dry eye IMO.

Hey, I’ve worn contact lenses for 41 years and have a very complicated prescription, I now wear Cooper Vision astigmatic lenses, made in USA (out of Huntington Beach, CA). They are great but the solution I use, AMO Complete, which used to be made in Spain is now made in CHINA. Oh my God....I have had so many problems that I rarely wear my contacts unless I’m going into social situations or have to drive long distances. Get huge mucous threads that wrap themselves all over my contacts until my vision is so obscured I’m afraid to be on the road, get so scared I will kill myself or others.
Is this the China syndrome?

I wore Accuvue 1 day and didn't like them at all. I could not wear the extended wear past one day so switched to the daily wear.
I now wear focus dailies and have had no problems with them at all.
You may want to explore other brands.

I ask that question because I have worn Acuvue Daily Wear contacts for many years with relative ease. That is, until about three years ago when I began experiencing quite a bit of difficulty with irritation and some infections. Before continuing to wear those contacts, have them tested. If you get me the manufacturer's exact name, I may be able to find out more information for you.

I tried contacts in my mid 20's ... but my lifestyle wasn't conducive to the cleanliness needed to maintain healthy eyes, so I went back to glasses ... tried again about 5 years ago and they irritated me to distraction .... I had cataract surgery in December and the freedom is tremendous ... I use cheaters ($1 per at discount stores) for reading and computer work.
I don't know if they do lens implants on non cataract eyes, but I LOVE 'em.

No problem here. But I just looked at the box I'm going through now and it came from Ireland.

Reading all of these problems makes me feel better that I have worn nothing but glasses for over 40 years.

Oh crap - I've had NOTHING but trouble with the Acuvue Oasys and never thought about their being made in China. They are drying out on me in about 2-3 days. Not only that, one of my children has had red eyes for about 6 weeks that the doctor is treating with drops, but it is not going away.
Any idea who makes lenses in America?

I suggest you contact the FDA about this one. Seriously. Just give them a report, and then maybe find an investigative reporter to check on this further and get the story out into the media.
To: zerosix
I just switched to Acuvue Oasys lenses and they are the most comfortable I've ever used.
My box has a bunch of Japanese type, and a Japanese web address. I don't see anything which says, "Made in Japan," though. But I don't see Made in China either.

No, I have no problem with contacts. After 20+ years of putting up with them, I got LASIK.

I’ve been wearing Accueview Toric extended wear for years. I have to agree, they have not been as comfortable as they once were. I am now wearing glasses for the next two weeks so my corneas can heal. Doctor claims they were not getting enough oxygen. I was not aware they were made in China. If that is true, that will certainly figure into my future relationship with Accueview.
